Publisher's Summary

As lead singer and songwriter for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis has lived life on the razor's edge. Much has been written about him, but until now we've only had his songs as clues to his experience from the inside. In Scar Tissue, Kiedis proves himself to be as compelling a memoirist as he is a lyricist, giving us a searingly honest account of the life from which his music has evolved.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are that rare breed of rock band: critically lauded and popularly embraced by millions of fans, their albums consistently sell into the stratosphere - their CD Californication sold over 13 million copies alone.

Now, in Scar Tissue, Anthony Kiedis defies the rock star clichés. In his telling, we can see everything he has done has been part of a passionate journey. Kiedis is a man "in love with everything" - the darkness, the death, the disease. Even his descent into drug addiction was a part of that journey; another element that he has transformed into art. Scar Tissue is a fascinating account of a fast-lane life, addiction, and a moving story of eventual recovery and redemption.

Sorely disappointing

As a huge chilli's fan for more years than I care to count I can honestly say that this book was a serious disappointment. Essentially, the tale consists of a self obsessed narcist in an addict loop. He meets girls, breaks up, get high, gets clean, and the loop begins again - interesting for the first few times, but this basically the content for the entire book.
It was a real struggle to finish it.

So real it touched my heart

Thank you Anthony for sharing your story. Touched my heart and put in words so many feelings I didn't know how to express for myself

Seen it through to the end .

It dragged out a bit for me .
The story was just a bit of the same old stuff over and over .Lots of drug abuse!

No better bio, hands down

Best bio on audible, hands down. Covers so many aspects of his life in incredible detail and reflection

Time spent I won’t get back

Pretty close to the worst bio I’ve listened to. Kiedis comes across as an absolute jerk, oblivious to the fact he’s a really, really bad guy. He turns everything bad he does into an okay situation by describing his sex acts with various girls. He’s oblivious to the fact that some of these encounters are basically drug rapes, and at least two of these are with children. It’s okay though because, ya know, he’s a sexual being, and he fronts a band! Give me a break. I love the chilli peppers (music), but this memoir is a disgrace. Leave this one alone and go get Flea’s Acid for the Children, that’s a memoir that deserves its place in the library.

A book about drugs and rock and roll

A great book, but he does describe the depths he went through on drug benders and his sober periods
