This is a story about craft, about work, about magic, and most of all about the pleasure and difficulty of friendship. It begins when four young misfits with a talent for magic (and trouble!) arrive at Winding Circle Temple. Despite their differences, Sandry (the noble), Tris (the merchant girl), Daji (the trader), and Briar (the "street rat") find themselves bound together in a Circle of Magic - a circle they will need when they face crushing danger in a white-knuckle climax that will have listeners glued to the edges of their seats.Follow the adventures of all the young mages-in-training with Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic series.©1997 Tamora Pierce (P)2002 Full Cast Audio Romance Science Fiction & Fantasy

Editorial reviews

In the first audiobook of Pierce's Circle of Magic quartet, the mage Niklaren Goldeye gathers four children and takes them to Winding Circle temple. They possess powers they do not understand, which leads to their being moved to Discipline cottage and which may end up making them a family. Full Cast Audio used almost 30 actors in this presentation, and the result is an exceptional match between the voices and the character descriptions, including children's characters being voiced by children. The resulting authenticity helps bring the world of Emelan to life. High production values are also seen in the musical accents and sound quality.

Critic Reviews

"Sandry's Book is a wonderful fantasy story and the Full Cast Audio presentation puts listeners right in the middle of the action." (The Shy Librarian)

This book is lovely and charming, great for adults and kids. I enjoyed all the magic of winding circle and all the characters. It's been one of my favorites for years. I even named my son Moss. Hearing it read to me, especially but Tamora, is priceless <3

Its extra special when characters have different voice actors, it helps make the characters real and personable.

it pains me to say it, as I love Tamora Pierce's books, but she's a terrible narrator :(

It's a delight to hear this version of a well loved book that I've read many times. The expression in the voices of the child characters brings so much nuance to their personalities and the story flows beautifully despite having numerous actors involved. Tamora as narrator is an added bonus and I really enjoyed hearing her voice (the tone and strength were just right). Although I'm an adult I don't think I'll ever stop re reading this book series every year or two (along with most of Tamora's other books - I'd love to hear Terrier given a similar audiobook experience, for example).
