Publisher's Summary

John Milton is trying to make amends for a career spent killing for the British Secret Service. He has a burning need to right wrongs - and rewrite his own bloody past. He finds himself in Louisiana, the Big Sleazy, the bayou, and the post-Katrina wreckage of the Gulf Coast with a debt of honor to repay.

Isadora Bartholomew, who saved his partner's life, needs his help. Joel Babineaux, a ruthless property magnate, is out to sink the charity she established to help rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward.

Just when Milton thinks he has neutralised Babineaux's scheming, a dangerous man from his past takes an unhealthy interest in his present. Claude Boon used to work for the Mossad and might be more than Milton can handle. And then the stakes get even higher....

Salvation Row is the most explosive thriller yet in Mark Dawson's best-selling John Milton series. It's a book no self-respecting suspense fan will want to be without.

Mark Dawson is my best new author find of 2015

The John Milton series consists of 2 novellas and 6 novels. Every on of the 8 books deserves a five star rating. John Milton is a British espionage agent who is trying to leave the agency after years against the wishes of the agency. I wish that Mark Dawson would write more John Milton novels, but that seems unlikely.

Dawson is a wonderful author.

Another hit

Dawson has hit his stride. Nothing stops the adrenaline. Fast action, justice prevails, character continues to grow. What more can you ask? Even the reader had better American accents this time out,( pretty bad in earlier reads),
Intend to read his two other series. All six of these were really enjoyable for action, survival readers. I will say the fifth, Sword of God, was the best to me.

Louisiana Hot

This book was very good. I would recommend to followers of the John Milton series or those who enjoy David Thorpe or Mark Dawson. Unfortunately, you have to follow the entire John Milton series to gain an appreciation for this book, as you will better understand the character (Milton) that way, inclusive of the history that he references. This book was strong, but it's the introduction of an amazing character named Avi Bachman that really sends this story into overdrive. Avi is awesome!

Meh

I am reading my way through the Dawson 'Milton' novels and this is the first one I haven't enjoyed. The story seemed flat, the characters were uninspired or irritating, and there were some factual errors that bothered me. The female character here, Izzy (sp?), was particularly irritating, saying and doing things that were childish, in contrast to how she was otherwise portrayed. And all of the court scenes were incorrect. I am an attorney, so I understand that many/most people would not recognize those incongruities, but they drove me crazy, just like attorney-based tv shows. I think if any of the future books starts down this path I will just stop reading and move on to the next book.

Intense!

Milton meets his match in this novel full of plot twists and suspense. His own arrogance is almost his downfall. He's still trying to atone for his past sins and gets involved with a beautiful woman and the corrupt men who intend to destroy everything she's worked for. His past comes back to haunt him in the form of a fellow assassin. I absolutely love the narration of David Thorpe! His voice inflection and pronounciation of words is more than enough to keep my attention. Looking forward to the next installment.

For American listeners it is painful hearing a Brit's pronunciation of lots of words. Other than that I love the series.

Good story but. ........

Good story but the lead female is rather annoying the way she argues about everything that's Milton is doing to help her just so annoying & frustrating. I found myself saying 'oh for god's sake just shut up and just do it'. The narrators American accents especially the female ones again rather disturbing. Lots of room for improvement.

Wow, just couldn't put this one down...

First time I've completed an audiobook in one sitting, but just couldn't get enough of Salvation Row. Milton heads back to New Orleans to help some friends who risked their lives for him and Ziggy during Hurricane Katrina. Milton soon realises that the opposition will stop at nothing to get their own way, and even bring in an ex-Mossad agent who worked with Milton In the past. Both men soon realise they're in for the fight of their lives. Not only was the story so very compelling (and left on somewhat of a cliffhanger...😀), but the insight and description into the sheer devastation that Hurricane Katrina caused was very humbling. A real eye opener, and I thank Mark Dawson for describing it so. Flawless narration from David Thorpe once again. He is a terrific storyteller.

The best John Milton yet!

Mark Dawson has created a super hero in John Milton and although some of the action takes place in USA in recent books, JM is definitely English which makes him really essential listening. I think Salvation Row is the best one yet strong story, great twists and turns, gripping stuff all immaculately brought to life by the brilliant reading and voices of David Thorpe. Thank you Mark and David for such pleasure.

Business As Usual

It's a well trodden path - the lone avenger with the dark past now doing good as he wanders, alone, throughout the United States set up on from all sides he tries to redeem himself with acts of kindness and courage. Obviously as with any of these thrillers you need to suspend your disbelief, I mean really suspended it. But it's a Good yarn well performed.

spookily close to home

What did you like most about Salvation Row?

It was well written and as there has just been a similar incident of Hurricanes in that part of America, very accurate. You were there with them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Salvation Row?

nothing really it just flowed.

What does David Thorpe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Well he sounds like you imagine John Milton to sound and behave the way you expect, so he for me seems spot on to narrate these books.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No I rarely get that sort immersion from a book... sorry.,. I suppose the best I can manage is pleased when something works out well, or irritated when people behave like idiots.

Any additional comments?

We got stuck in the car for 2 hours in a traffic jam in Bordeaux, and we really didn't mind that much as we had this book playing in the car.

An old debt is paid in this John Milton novel.

I am enjoying listening to the John Milton series of novels. The stories are varied enough, without long drawn out and involved back stories that are the basis of other books in the series. (Yes, there is some but not too much)

This story has its start when New Orleans is gripped in the clutches of Katrina. John and an associate are caught up in the event and a local family helps them.

Jump forward ten years and the same local family are now in need of help. Milton steps in.

Not 5 star but a good easy listening series.

Good addition to the Milton storyline

Lots of the older stories threaded through this book. Good pace and narration as good as we’ve come expect. Storyline a little predictable and not a lot of variation from the normal plot lines. Setting up a new villain is a nice ending that makes you want to get the next in the series.
