Salvador Dalí nace el 11 de mayo de 1904, en Figueras donde su padre era notario. Desde muy temprana edad muestra dotes excepcionales para el dibujo iniciándose en la pintura a la edad de 10 años, cuando conoce la obra de Ramon Pitxot, pintor influido por el impresionismo y el postimpresionismo francés y amigo de su familia. De 1917 datan sus primeras obras, que acusan esta influencia.
Un año después presenta su primera exposición en el Teatro municipal de Figueras, recibiendo muy buenas críticas. A los 17 años ingresa en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, de Madrid, y se instala en la Residencia de Estudiantes, donde traba amistad con Lorca y Buñuel.
