Story
SAS Ghost Patrol is the explosive true story of the day in 1942 when the SAS donned Nazi uniforms to perpetrate the most audacious and daring mission of the war. Beyond top secret, deniable in the extreme (and of course enjoying Churchill's enthusiastic blessing), this is one of the most remarkable stories of wartime lawlessness, eccentricity and raw courage in the face of impossible odds - a thoroughly British undertaking.

Story
In the bleak moments after defeat on mainland Europe in winter 1939, Winston Churchill knew that Britain had to strike back hard. So Britain's wartime leader called for the lightning development of a completely new kind of warfare, recruiting a band of eccentric free-thinking warriors to become the first 'deniable' secret operatives to strike behind enemy lines, offering these volunteers nothing but the potential for glory and all-but-certain death.

Story
In the winter of 1941 an alien-seeming object was captured in a death-defying dash by an RAF reconnaissance pilot flying a lone unarmed Spitfire across the French coast. Balanced upon the cliffs near Le Havre was what appeared to be a giant convex dish, directed across the Channel at the war-torn British coastline. With Britain's cities being pounded by fearsome bombing raids, teams of experts studied the photograph worriedly.

Story
We share the triumphs and tragedies of a group of elite soldier trailblazers as they commit daring raids behind enemy lines in 1944, manage an against-the-odds escape to victory and then seek post-war retribution for the terrible murder of their captured comrades. SAS Band of Brothers is replete with action, peppered with great characters and features two of the most daring escapes of WWII. The Nazi Hunters is the incredible, hitherto untold story of the most secret chapter in the SAS' history. Officially, the world's most elite special forces unit was dissolved at the end of the Second World War and not reactivated until the 1950s. Among their last actions was a disastrous commando raid into occupied France in 1944, which ended in the capture, torture and execution of 31 soldiers.

Story
From the best-selling author of true military classics Zero Six Bravo, The Nazi Hunters and Churchill's Secret Warriors. In the Spring of 1940, as Britain reeled from defeats on all fronts and America seemed frozen in isolation, one fear united the British and American leaders like no other: the Nazis had stolen a march on the Allies towards building the atomic bomb. So began the hunt for Hitler's nuclear weapons - nothing else came close in terms of priorities.

Story
In the summer of 1941, at the height of the war in the Western Desert, a bored and eccentric young officer, David Stirling, came up with a plan that was imaginative, radical and entirely against the rules: a small undercover unit that would wreak havoc behind enemy lines. Despite intense opposition, Winston Churchill personally gave Stirling permission to recruit the most ruthless soldiers he could find. So began the most celebrated and mysterious military organisation in the world: the SAS.

Story
It is difficult to find another soldier's story to equal Captain Darrell Watt's in terms of time spent on the field of battle and challenges faced. Even by the lofty standards of the SAS and Special Forces, one has to look far to find anyone who can match his record of resilience and valor in the face of such daunting odds and with resources so paltry. In the fight, he showed himself to be a military maestro. After 12 years in the cauldron of war, his cause slipped from beneath him, and Rhodesia gave way to Zimbabwe.

Publisher's Summary
An impossible mission in wartime Italy: the next explosive best seller from Damien Lewis.
In the hard-fought winter of 1944, the Allies advanced northwards through Italy but stalled on the fearsome mountainous defences of the Gothic Line. Two men were parachuted in, in an effort to break the deadlock. Their mission: to penetrate deep into enemy territory and lay waste to the Germans' impregnable headquarters.
At the 11th hour, mission commanders radioed for David 'The Mad Piper' Kilpatrick to be flown in, resplendent in his tartan kilt. They wanted this fearless war hero to lead the assault, piping 'Highland Laddie' as he went - so leaving an indelible British signature to deter Nazi reprisals.
As the column of raiders formed up, there was shocking news. High command radioed through an order to stand down, having assessed the chances of success at little more than zero. But in defiance of orders, and come hell or high water, they were going in.
Damien Lewis' new best seller tells the incredible story.

Quite Lost for Words!
It's not so often these days that I read military history and I end up almost lost for words. Of course I always knew about partisans and that they were supported by British troops but I had no idea quite the role that they played. The amount of damage small numbers of troops did to the enemy existing in occupied territory for such a long period simply cannot be under-estimated. They must have saved thousands upon thousands of allied lives. This story brings the characters to life and shows the sheer backbone and yes even at times the utter bloody mindedness they possessed. Defying the odds, defying their own commanders and defying the obstacles in their way they took the fight to the enemy in their own backyard. It's staggering stuff, this heady mix of nationalities stiffened by British special forces achieved so much and for some in particular there was scant reward but the achievement itself. Inspirational.

Wartime Politics
This is a FANTASTIC story and really captures how life and war was in the Italian Alps and how the partizans really helped with the effort of creating a soft underbelly off the Nazi war machine. I have listen to DL before and was fantastic, again he is great, but and this a big but the sound quality is not so good, as it cuts in and out occasionally... im guessing this a bad edit? If this can me amended this would be 5 stars. I dont like taking a star off but there does need a quality control. the story is 5stars however.

Heroes who gave us the freedoms and easy lives we have today.
Let’s just hope the world never forgets the horrors of war. Too many lives were lost in the last two wars. There will always be leaders and hero’s but we need them to keep the world at peace. This was a great book. We are visiting FRANCE and last weekend went deep into the woods to a memorial celebration where the French resistance hero’s were massacred and remembered. There were hundreds of people there. Let’s remember and never make the same mistakes again. I strongly recommend this book and author. Thank you.

Incredible story, great narration
Awesome introduction to Damien Lewis' books. Depicted events are fantastically surreal and incredible feats of achievement for those involved. The title honestly doesn't make this story justice. I'm an avid military history enthusiast but I'm still in disbelief how they managed to accomplish what they did, in the way they did. The book contains lots of personal information related to those involved; it's packed with action, military strategy and tactics; also lots of other stuff that you might be able to imagine happens when SAS members are in command of partisans behind one of the most fortifified and manned defensive lines of Nazi Germany this late in the war. I obviously recommend this book to anyone who might resonate with all aformentioned. Just know that I most likely didn't do this book justice either. The only qualms I had with this book was in regards to the chronological order of certain parts, time skipping mid sentence (rare) and the like. Nothing else to complain about really. I will explore more of what Damien has to offer; and also Matt, who deserves a special mention for his way of making the characters come to life.
