Publisher's Summary

If you want to learn Russian in less time while also enjoying yourself, then pay attention...

The experience of going through a story allows us to escape our lives for a moment, and so this is a perfect way to start learning a language. Going through a story activates your brain and imagination, thus increasing the chance to learn easily and not quit.

Often, people start learning a new language only to give up after a couple of weeks. This is not due to the complexity of the language but because they become disheartened as the method they are using does not give the right motivation. This is much less likely to happen if your tool is short stories!

In Russian Short Stories: 11 Simple Stories for Beginners Who Want to Learn Russian in Less Time While Also Having Fun, you will encounter rich and new but not too complex vocabulary, which is translated at the end of the chapter, avoiding the hassle of having to stop the listening rhythm to look up every word in the dictionary.

Every paragraph is translated, and the summary of each story is given, thus providing a clearer comprehension of each sentence, while trying to prevent the temptation that the listener might have, if discouraged, of giving up and listening to the whole story in English.

After each chapter, there is a question section, which aims to test the listener's overall understanding of the story, containing both open-ended and multiple-choice questions. The solved questions are provided at the end, enabling you to check your own answers and, consequently, develop your skills.

I love this guide

This is helpful but I would suggest only if you are already at a reasonable level. If you are a beginner I would recommend the 11 simple Russian stories audiobook.

Well done.

My Russian teacher recommended this audiobook, having found new writers and stories in it yet she'd not before present. The side-by-side translations are very well done.

Helpful for english/russian students

I highly suggest it to all students of the Russian language. Stories are not so well known and worth guides.

Recommended for beginners

It's surprising how much building and meaning is maintained despite this. I won't be at a level where I can clearly understand the Russian side soon, but it's helpful to familiarize myself with the stories for now.

A well-known guide

I suspect, the answer is as follows: if you're looking to learn Russian, go on and wish something more suitable; this book will only mess up your current knowledge. As a native speaker, I just know it for pleasure and enjoyment of helping my translation...

Very good representation of the best

It's a very fun collection to know while traveling in Russia. I don't know that it includes the absolute "best" of every author, but all the stories give a good understanding of each writer's style and awareness.

A great fun to follow

Russian short stories manage to be dark, but they provide you a sense of what it was truly like when Communism was in charge. There is one story that I loved, however, and it must have been a bear to translate because the hero uses malapropisms.

Great start for beginners!

A very helpful tool for picking up basics plus foundation vocabulary and grammar. The audio of stories by a native speaker is a nice addition. The far less painful and more natural way to learn grammar than step by step information.

This was recommended to me

This audiobook is suitable for people with a certain knowledge of the language, (I would say low average but certainly not beginners). You will get many new words in a fun way rather than learning them like in grammar. you will also get a few colloquial phrases and their way in certain contexts.

This book for someone learning Russian

I really liked it and believed that it was properly written for students. The sentence structures are not overly difficult so the user can lead to learn thru, so to speak, even when you may be possible of the exact meaning. Plus, the details always help to decide out what you may not understand.

I feel encouraged!

I'm only a beginner-beginner; I understand only a few very basic words and phrases and have begun listening to Russian records more to start getting a sense of the sounds and rhythms and expressions of the language than with any expectation of actually comprehending what I'm hearing. And yet, in these stories, those few words, and phrases I remember, and turns upon them, keep coming up, over and over.

It’s informational

The book is very helpful in increasing your knowledge of specific words used in different circumstances as the meaning of each word is explained according to the context as well as in its simplest form. The audiobook is for beginners like the title implies and it is surely worth a try.

Great resource!

As a beginner to learning Russian, I was resembling stories that would start my vocabulary more than just understanding children's books. This audiobook has been a great find for me; they give you a list of vocabulary at the end of each story, a survey (in English) and questions about the story
