Publisher's Summary

Davey’s rule number 86: A good Daddy will never lie to his boy...even by omission.

Travis Miller has a pretty solid life in the small California beach town he calls home. He’s working his way up in the district attorney’s office, he owns a home with an ocean view, and he has close ties with his family. Life is good. If only he could find a sweet boy to call his own, life would be...perfect.

Adam Nichols’ life has never been easy. Growing up in foster care taught him to be strong, so finding himself in a violent relationship was a shock. Now that he's finally free of it, he faces new problems. He's jobless, homeless, and terrified of starting from scratch.

With a little help from an old friend, Adam discovers a whole new world. He goes from rock bottom to renting a room from a hot assistant DA and working at Daddy’s Lap, a kink club that opens his vanilla eyes to things he’d never imagined. His new roommate is a balm to Adam’s damaged soul. The tender way Travis cares for him is almost like the daddy kink community he’s seen at the club. But Travis isn’t a daddy...right? If he were, surely he’d have said so.

What happens when a lie by omission threatens to bring their budding relationship tumbling down around them? Will Travis ever be able to earn Adam's trust again?

This is the first book in a new series about not-so-perfect daddies, adorable “boys”, and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Possible trigger for references to domestic violence.

Susan Hawke has done it again!

5 Blue Roses
5 Blue Flames
Genre: LGBT, M/M, Romance, Comedy, Fiction, Boy-Daddy Play

Michael Pauly returns to be better than ever to wow listeners with his vocal versatility that it sounds like an entire cast of narrators. He manages to bring this audiobook to life, making it hot, funny and very entertaining. His voice was much smoother, my eardrums can confess of it.
Travis and Adam's story was beautiful and believable. It is not unique, but circumstances around the pair and the gentle way Travis approached Adam grabbed my attention.

I was thoroughly entertained and I am looking forward to the rest of this series. The boy-daddy play was not overdone and I can certainly see the appeal to this kind of kink. Usually I'm kind of irritated with the little's, but found it was tastefully done. I also appreciate the extra education weaved so subtle between the lines, so we learn and get to know the kink.
I love Davey's rules there are 89 rules and the list is growing. They are very funny and I suspect Travis's brother may end up ticking all those boxes.

My favourite rule is rule 29, I couldn't stop laughing at the ridiculousness of it." Daddy must never ever wear green or orange, Daddy is neither a leprechaun or inmate."

This is a definite relisten for me. I do recommend this audiobook when you are in the mood for a M/M romantic comedy.
Happy Listening

Hawke's writing + Pauley's narration? Yes, please!

Susan Hawke's writing plus Michael Pauley's narration? Yes, please! I needn't say more, but I will, especially if you're new to this particular pairing or just to the two in general. Hawke's newest audiobook is the first in her latest series entitled Davey's Rules, and her story is taken to a whole new level of awesomeness with the vocal stylings of Pauley. The "Davey" in question is Davey Hendrickson, a young gay man who's jotted down a rule or eighty that he expects whoever his chosen "Daddy" will adhere by. The series starter isn't Davey's story, and I suspect we won't get that until either much later in the series or as the series ender. Instead Davey's part, at least in book one, is as the best friend of one of the main characters and as a guide of sorts when it comes to the world of the Daddy/boy kink.

Susan Hawke delivers a story that mixes angst with humor while not downplaying what Adam experiences by laughing it off. This isn't merely about the whole kink angle. If anything, Hawke reiterates time and again the importance of trust and that it isn't just not easily earned but it's even more difficult to keep, especially when secrets are kept. It's the titular character of Davey who provides a lot of the humorous moments in the book, which were appreciated lest the story be bogged down and become depressing. I liked the connection that Travis and Adam shared and how their relationship was never rushed. With a story as interesting as the Hawke has written, Michael Pauley does it justice by not "phoning in" in his narration, instead bringing the characters to life once again with his undeniable talent. Five stars for Rules to Follow.

Performance made the book so much more

When Adam left his violent, abusive relationship, he was terrified of starting over, jobless and homeless, so called his former roommate Davey, a bartender at Daddy's Lap. When Davey tells some friends at the bar about Adam, they all jump to help him, providing a job and a placed to live. Travis, an assistant DA, offers to let Adam rent a room from him. But when Travis cares for Adam like the Daddy's down at the club, Adam starts to wonder if Travis is a Daddy; but wouldn't Travis have told Adam? But will this lie of omission threaten their relationship?
I had a hard time getting into this book. I usually LOVE Susan (Susi) Hawke's books, but this one just missed for me. It started out confusing as the book summary was about Adam and Travis but the first chapter is about Davey. It was VERY confusing. Secondly, the way that some of the characters spoke was just hard to want to continue with. I enjoyed the premise of the story, and feel that it could have been much more. . However, I feel that Michael Pauley's performance was absolutely on for this book. He did a perfect job bringing forth the true characters of the book, especially Davey's sassy/brattiness and Travis' command. I read the ebook when it initially came out, and hesitated to try the audiobook when it came out as well, but I am glad that I did. Michael Pauley's performance truly made this book more of a performance and overall great story (and easier for me to follow along with). I now am looking forward to more from this series (especially if the narrator stays the same!!!)

Sweet & Awesome

A beautifully sweet daddy/boy story brilliantly brought to life by the spectacular narrator. His voice for Davey is especially fantastic! Adam finally escapes an abusive relationship and Davey takes him in. Travis is immediately drawn to Adam and just wants to take care of him. I love watching these 2 develop their very special bond as daddy/boy. Travis is exactly what Adam needs in his life and vice versa. I love how they are not only great as lovers but also as friends. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook

I need more!!!!

Davey is absolutely adorable, a riot, and everything in between. I cannot wait for more of Davey. Now, on to the actual couple in the story :)
Travis is a Daddy that is only missing a boy to complete his life. He enjoys his job (stress and all), has a great relationship with his brother, and just wants that special someone. Now, we meet Travis while on a date with Davey that doesn't quite work out.
Next is Adam. He is leaving an abusive relationship with a jerk that isolated him then he remembers his old roommate and you guessed it, Davey. Next up is Adam finding his feet again, working and going to school while his job at Daddy's Lap opens his eyes. On the way to gaining back his life, he takes up the offer of renting Travis's extra room and that's where he begins to fall for Travis. Except Travis might have forgotten to mention something to Adam.

Enjoyed!

I enjoyed reading Rules to Follow. I found both mc's to be likeable and interesting. Adam is so sweet and young and Travis was the perfect Daddy he never knew he needed.
These two are perfect together. I'm looking forward to the next one in this series. Michael Pauley does an outstanding job of bringing these characters to life.

Lovely Daddy/boy story.

I loved this story! Daddy is always my favourite kink, and when matched with a hurt/comfort theme of domestic violence by the ex-boyfriend, it was just the perfect read for me.
Adam is so sweet and young, but so strong and resilient, too. Travis is just the perfect caretaking Daddy, although in the beginning he makes the mistake of not coming clean about his kink with Adam for fear of scaring him off.
These two men are so perfect together that I can’t even express how cute they are!

This is the beginning of a new series, I loved all the crew surrounding Adam and Travis in this book, and I can’t wait to read more!

Michael Pauley's my absolute favourite narrator and rhis is another great example!

Entertaining!

4 Stars

I wasn't sure what to expect when I listened to the Prologue of this book. It starts with Davey (the reason this series is called Davey's Rules) on a date with Travis, who turned out to be one of the MCs in Rules to Follow. Davey is a bratty guy in search of the perfect Daddy and to find him, he has made this set of rules he measures every guy he dates against in a 3 strikes and they're out kind of deal. Of course, the potential Daddy has no clue about the rules and with 80-something of them, he's bound to fail. So, yeah, I found Davey to be self-absorbed at first, but when his ex-roommate Adam calls him for help, he drops everything to help him and support him however he can. That changed drastically my opinion of Davey and now, I can't wait to read more of the series to see if/when he'll find his perfect Daddy.

Adam is fresh out of an abusive relationship and is fairly innocent. He's still quite young and my heart broke for everything he had to go through. While he got better with Davey and Travis's support, I felt he would've benefitted from a few counseling sessions, especially since he was studying to become a social worker in the future. *shrugs* Travis seemed like a nice guy, but the whole not telling Adam about being a Daddy, especially after Adam asked him point-blank made me want to knock his head on a wall. I liked the progression of their relationship, though, they were sweet together and I was glad we got to see them as a couple for longer than just a few pages.

Michael gave each character a very distinctive voice, his tone is very pleasant and he puts a lot of emotion into the narration, which always makes for an enjoyable experience when I get one of his audiobooks.

I'll be definitely looking forward to more of this series and Davey!

This is the first book in what promises to be an excellent new series. Michael Pauley is one of my top favourite narrators and he does an awesome job of bringing the guys to life. I enjoyed getting to know sweet Adam and Travis who longs to be his Daddy Dom. I'm highly anticipating book 2 and highly recommend this one to all lovers of Daddy/boy stories.

Rules, rules, rules!

A nice start to this series that’s based around Davey and his endless rules! This book focuses on Adam, a survivor domestic abuse and Travis who teaches his to feel safe again.

It’s great fun and the parts that aren’t, are handled gently. It’s a slow burn and it’s great to see Adam starting to trust Travis and then, following a monumental screw up, trusting him again. Communication Guys! Come on!!!

Michael Pauley is, as always, perfect! He could read a menu to me and I’d be captivated....

A Great Start

This is the first book in The Davey's Rules Series. What an sensational book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters wonderful. The characters were developed and thought out. Adam and Travis are the MC’s of this book. I can recommend this book as a good read. The narration was well done and not monotone. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Fantastic start to a sassy new series

This book is so much fun! The series is based around Davey, the bringer of SO MUCH SASS and his ridiculous number of rules for what makes the perfect Daddy. His college friend Adam needs him and Davey comes to the rescue. Enter Travis, and the start of a slow burn, friends to lovers tale. Is Travis the Daddy that Adam didn't know he needed?
There are so many great elements to this book, and hopefully the series. Davey and his rules are hilarious, the other characters are great and I can't wait to see their books, and the club is obviously going to be the hub of the series.
Michael Pauley is the perfect narrator for this series, his Daddy voice is to die for.
Loved it and can't wait for the next one.

An emotionally gripping, poignant and healing story!!

This story is so real and authentic it will grab your heart from the start. Knowing this story has so much of Susan in it makes it even more enthralling and emotional. The story follows Adam, as he gets the courage to leave an abusive partner and turn to an old friend, Davey, to help start his life again. The story is witty, humorous and real, with characters that are so unique and just totally loveable, I couldn’t put the book down.

The journey these characters go through is authentic and realistic and with the help of Davey, eye-opening and a little kinky LOL. I loved Adam and Travis and their connection. I enjoyed watching them grow and find their kink together. I enjoyed the healing elements and ultimate care Travis has for Adam. I was frustrated when there was a lie of omission and felt the ‘betrayal’ but understand why and thought Susan approached this character development really well and in a real-world way rather than the dramatic ways we can sometimes expect from a romance.

Adam and Travis are perfect together, they just fit! I found their connection organic and really enjoyed their journey. All the secondary characters Susan has created are fantastic and there are so many I want to know more about and I can’t wait for Davey and Travis’ brother Brian’s story up next. I love this collection of characters and hope there will be many more stories from Davey and his tribe!!!!

Thanks for reading!
