Story
The Vietnam War is at its height, and the US has acquired a Soviet-built MiG-17. Marine aviator Brad Austin has been recruited to test-pilot it. The MiG is an aerial hotrod, crude yet lethally effective. But it's not what Austin is flying, it's where - behind enemy lines, disguised as a Russian pilot. If he succeeds in penetrating the enemy air space, he will find easy prey. But if he fails, he will be disavowed.

Story
While Congress debates the merits of continued funding for the stealth bomber, sinister forces have their own goals in mind. During a training exercise, a B-2 bomber disappears. When search efforts produce no evidence that the bomber crashed, the US Air Force has no choice but to acknowledge that one of its most secret and high-tech aircraft has been hijacked.
Recovery of the B-2 and its crew becomes the president's highest priority, and the Kremlin claims no knowledge of the missing aircraft. Finally, intelligence leads to what at first seems a very unlikely suspect: Cuba.

Story
The United States is under attack. From the sea and the sky, the devastating attacks come, crippling the US military's ability to respond. Thousands have been killed and injured. For President Cord Macklin, this is the greatest challenge of his life, greater than risking his life in the skies over Vietnam and greater than guiding the country through some of the most trying times. But none has been more trying than this. Below the sea, a predator stalks the pride of America's Navy: its aircraft carriers. Deadly and silent, this killer seems able to elude all efforts to find it.

Dark, chilling eyes. Wilson kicked right rudder to slide closer and jam any chance for a bandit gunshot. When the bandit pulled all the way over, almost on its back but in control, he cursed in frustration at what he knew was coming next.

It has been over a year since the war began. A year since China launched its surprise attack on America. EMP and cyber weapons plunging much of the nation into a dark chaos. Thousands of anti-ship missiles gutting the US Pacific fleet. A Chinese-allied North Korea launching an all-out attack on South Korea. Chinese information warfare campaigns triggering America to launch a nuclear strike on China's own nuclear stockpile. And the international political consequences that followed.

Story
Wilson shot a glance over his right shoulder at San Ramon. In addition to the blinking of anti-aircraft artillery guns, he could see clouds of smoke on the field from the numerous Slash hits. Breathing through his mouth, he concentrated on getting fast and maintaining a slight climb. Bright fireballs of AAA shot by him in groups of three and four, orderly trails from low to high. His body was tense, ready for impact. He felt and heard the thud behind, on his right.

Story
The year 1941: Andrew Troost, heir to generations of naval tradition, has just been made admiral, when reports fly in of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Troost's son, Warren, has followed in his footsteps and is one of the men fighting for his country on a PT boat in the Pacific. In New York City, Tony Trapasso hears the call to action and gets ready to join the naval action. With him is Jacob Miller, a young man choosing to become a naval pilot instead of following the rabbinical calling of his Jewish forebears.
Publisher's Summary
From the New York Times best-selling author Joe Weber comes a thrilling novel of the Vietnam War.
Marine pilot Brad Austin and his carrier-based F-4 Phantom group fly into the heart of enemy territory daily without fear, but the rules of engagement hinder them nearly as much as the North Vietnamese. Restricted from attacking the enemy's MiG bases, Austin and the other American pilots are vulnerable to attack without the ability to retaliate, a weakness that tragically leads to the death of Austin's wingman. Consumed by the need to avenge his comrade, Austin goes one-on-one with the enemy in a battle that ultimately proves in war there can be no rules.
In a fast-paced, thrilling look into the life of a Vietnam War fighter pilot, Joe Weber takes us high into the flack-filled skies above Hanoi and examines the air war as only a veteran fighter pilot can.
"Exciting and controversial. A powerful novel of the rules of war - and a man who broke them." (W.E.B. Griffin)
Joe Weber "does an admirable job of evoking in such readers a visceral understanding of the restrictions that precluded victory in Vietnam. In Rules of Engagement, Weber's political points will hit close to home, and they will strengthen the resolve of many, such as myself, who are determined never to allow the mistakes of Vietnam to be repeated." (Senator John McCain)
"Weber's writing has a great deal of panache. His knowledge of military hardware is impressive, and his edge-of-the-seat scenes are thrilling." (The Book Reader)

TO MY MIND
This book is constantly reminding me off another book I read years ago...perhaps you had the same memories I did, of STEPHEN COONTS, "FLIGHT of the INTRUDER"
Irregardless its still a decent book, with a pretty decent nod to MARINE FIGHTER PILOTS..
SEMPER FI MARINES, and to all the service guys...

Compelling story
Weber puts the listener in the cockpit of a high-powered jet aircraft during Vietnam War. My biggest problem was pronunciation by the reader. I actually cringed everytime the port of Yokosuka was mentioned. When I was there It was not pronounced Yoko-su-ka!
