I'd have preferred more substance. This was postulations and generalisations, with very few ties to historical figures. The author's favourite word is nuanced!

Over use of intellectual word salad descriptions rather than conveying simple historical facts. One has to sot through a flood of over complicated descriptions and theoretical questions just to obtain some factual details.
