About this listen
January 1951: Eleanor Webber is fleeing a failed love affair and has returned home to River Run, her family's sprawling sheep property in Western NSW.
Her hope is to take time to heal, but there's little chance of that happening. With tensions rising in the shearing shed, a mysterious stranger appears on the horizon and Eleanor's younger brother, Robbie, entangles her in a situation that will have serious repercussions for every member of the Webber family for years to come.

"Alexander writes from first-hand experience of the harshness of bush life as well as a deep love of the land." ( The Courier Mail)
Deadly dramas unfurl, all within a week of her return.
Robbie, her young brother, is running wild. Her older sister is languishing in a convent.
Shearing is starting in the middle of one of the hottest, driest summers, which makes for shearers’ demanding more than normal, and the owners trying to rein in their demands.
Her parents are playing host to another farming couple who provide River Run with their stud rams.
There is so much going on, that it is hard to imagine a years worth of drama in a single week, but the story rollicked along and kept the listener interested.
All in a weeks work!
