Publisher's Summary

Sarah Holt wants nothing more than to win the Burke and Duke internship and mentor under some of the country’s top architectural minds. The only obstacle between Sarah and her goal is a jilted ex-lover hell-bent on sabotaging her career.

When Sarah meets Leo Russell, an unlikely undergraduate, the attraction is instantaneous, and all her best-laid plans begin to unravel. For the first time in her life, Sarah considers the fact that there may be one thing more important to her than her ambition. As her feelings for Leo grow stronger, however, so does her suspicion that all is not as it appears with the man she is falling for. Determined to uncover the truth, Sarah begins to investigate Leo’s murky past, only to discover a house in the suburbs, and a stunningly sophisticated redhead who implores Sarah to walk away.

As the line between right and wrong becomes blurred by the shocking revelation of Leo’s guarded secrets, Sarah must make a decision that will ultimately determine the rest of her life.

Love it! Hate it! Gah! It is excellent!

This book! Gah! This Book!! I want to love it but yet hate it. They story is riveting! I could not stop listening! I wanted, hoped and wished for a happy ending. But this author grabbed that hope and gave it to me then took it away and stomped upon it. This story is outstanding. It pulled me in...made me care, laugh and cry. I was shocked, pleased and frustrated. But overall...perfectly done. The characters are easy to like and love. I laughed with them and at them. Even the secondary ones stood up to be counted. This is my first book by this author. I will be looking into more from her. I did listen to this on audio. The narrator did a great job with each of the characters. She is a first time listen as well.

Amazing, Emotional Read

This is the second book of Lissa Del's that I have read. At first it was a little slow, but I hung in there and got to the point I didn't want to put it down! I was so anxious, because I figured out there would be cheating (no I didn't read the synopsis before asking for an audio code) and that's a big trigger for me. There's also not a HEA...which I much prefer! But the story just pulled me in and made me laugh, smile, frown, get angry, caused great anxiety, and broke my heart. But we were left with hope. Sarah was a strong character. I'm still mad at Leo. But it was such a great read. Katlynn Millions does a great job narrating. She preformed both male and female parts well. Her voice is smooth. I hope to hear her again.

Wow.... Wasn't expecting that!

So, I got the book sent to me free for an honest review. This is the very first book I have read from her, Here it is: This book! I honestly finished this book about a week ago. It has taken me this long to review it because, holy cow, what a ride of emotions! I won't go into the summary as you have probably already read it on the book description, but I will go into some, but not giving away, details of characters and insights. Sarah: A character really that most of can relate to in some way. She is intelligent, thoughtful, ambitious and well, a woman with all the emotions that the rest of us feel. ( happiness, sadness, distrust, throwing caution to the wind) This character was so well thought out and presented, she really could be one of our friends in real life. I loved that this author did not have this character ramble on and on about things so much. There was plenty of conversations and dialog between characters that it kept me interested. Jess and Tom: Sigh.. Sarah's two best friends. Totally relatable and honestly, the relationship with them is so believable. and full of depth, Can i have them for best friends too please? Jess was the best friend we all want, she has your back and won't let anyone do you wrong. But she is also the "strong" outspoken friend dealing with her own stuff. Tom: who doesn't want a gay best friend!! honestly, he was smart, funny and believable as well. I could see spin off books on these two as being good ideas for sure. Noah: The narcissist professor, who also happens to be Sarah's ex boyfriend, who wants her back. Typical narcissist, doesn't get his way, so goes in for a payback. I will leave that there. Leo: Oh my heart races at the thought of having this man in my life... Lord have Mercy turn on the AC! A character who remained somewhat of a mystery until the end. But you still got to know him as a person and could feel what he was going through as well. There were times I wanted to say step back Sarah, I got this... I will give him what he needs. lol.. I thought for sure, when I first started reading about him, I could predict how he would turn out, nope. I was partially wrong. I won't discuss too many details on him as it is all part of the unraveling story. Such a well developed character, I wanted more. Overall: This book is filled with many emotions and twists and turns. I was so glad, yet not, that I wasn't able to predict how it would end. This is a MUST read book!!! I will add this author to my list when I feel the need for some reality. There wasn't a lot of sex in it at all, I normally go for these kinds of books, but a great romance of sorts. This book is worth the purchase!!

karma

Hopefully, selfish sarah has learned some life lessons, and karma has its' rewards! In the end, sarah retained too much from a lost relationship. She needed more oain and suffering , imo. She was a lose people user, and gets no empathy from me. Maybe somebody can use her!!! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

Loved loved this book!

This book was perfection! The great story line, the supporting characters really did give excellent meaning to the story but the main characters were superb...a different kind of love the way they started and how developed. The fact that ended the way it did it made it more real because not every wonderful love story have a happy ending. Loved it ❤️❤️

Tugging at my heart

I had no idea this story would make me so emotional! I read a couple reviews that talked about it being emotional, but I didn’t see it in the beginning. The secrets revealed were not what I thought they’d be and my heart was so broken at the end. Thank you for a beautiful story!

Very compelling listen

I listened to one other Lissa Del book (excellent!) and I should have been prepared for her endings. I was not. In fact, I was listening to this book while shopping and the ending stopped me in my tracks, mid-aisle, and I screamed like a mad woman. (It's a good thing I had on ear phones and not earbuds; at least people knew I was reacting to something I was listening to.) I loved this story. I loved the main character, Sarah. She was fun and funny and had her act together. I loved the many layers and the wonderful life-being-life moments. Man, I hated that ending. The narration was very well done. Sarah's character was instantly likeable and that came across very clearly. There were a wonderful mix of other characters and they too, were well-performed.

FANTASTIC!!

Gah this book. I was not prepared. I have been curious about this story for some time and decided to give it a go while spending my day wrapping presents. Fast forward to me bawling while wrapping my kids Christmas presents. This story absolutely shredded my heart, literally shredded. I was pulled into this story and guessing the whole way thru trying to find the missing pieces before the big reveal. I was no where close! With my raving review of how amazing this story was and is absolutely worth the time to read I want to say I would not describe this as a true romance because there’s not a HEA....rather a HFN.

Review

Wow!! This book was amazing...I loved everything about it... the characters, the story, the twists and real emotions. Truly wonderful writing by an author that is becoming one of my favourites. I enjoyed the narrator immensely, however there were some glitches, if I can call them that, with the editing... while listening there would be these weird blotches of narration where the volume would increase / decrease and the narrators voice would change that was jolting and not a pleasant experience. I did try to ignore it since I really was enjoying the book.

Riven

Riven Five Stars Riven is the first book I have read/listened to By Lissa Del and I can’t wait to get my hands in more books by her. This book had all of the feels. It was heartwarming and heartbreaking in the most amazing ways. I love the character progression and the wonderful/ terrible emotions brought up. This one left me with a book hangover for a few days. The narration by Katlynn Millions was a wonderful surprise. This is the first I have listen to narrated by her, and she is now on my to be listened to now.

A clever ending.

A bit of a slow beginning. But as we learned more of Sarah and Leo's relationship I became invested more in the story. I was constantly changing my mind about who Leo was a person and what he was hiding. The ending I didn't see coming and it blew me away.

Interesting take on contemporary romance

Although I quite enjoyed the story, I was distracted by the narrator's occasional mispronunciation of a word. Her voice was engaging, energy-filled, and well-suited to the tone of the novel as a whole, but I'm rather sensitive to mistakes of this nature and it put a damper on my good experience of this book. This is no conventional love story, though it may seem that way at first. Then again, Lissa Del does not write conventional anything, and regardless of how one feels about certain tropes and topics, no reader or listener will come away unchanged or unchallenged. There are twists and turns galore in this passionate unfolding of imperfectly perfect love story that proves that black and white are arbitrary symbols. It's the shades of grey that set the tone here. A good story, well-rendered in audio by a narrator well suited to the story.

Blow away

I’m utterly and completely blown away by this book, I’m gutted and emotional and think that if it were possible to give a thousand stars I definitely would. I’m don’t want to give anything away but suffice it to say that everyone needs to hear/read this book and I will definitely be searching out more books by Mellisa Delport and Lissa Del. The narration was amazing and so fitted Sarah and Leo and I’m so thankful to have been gifted this audiobook and to have found Katlynn Millions Ana especially Lissa Del. Lissa Del you are an amazing author, and I am a new fan for life.

Emotional!

No spoilers here! It's hard to write a review on this book without giving away anything so I will just say that Riven is unpredictable, emotional, and unforgettable. I loved Sarah and Leo and felt they made a beautiful couple. There was a twist in the story that I thought I had figured out but I was wrong. This book had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Katlynn Millions did a great job bringing this story to life. I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

absolutely gut wrenching but beautifully told

I have listened to a few books by melissa delport now and she is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. She has a wonderful way of bringing the characters to life and you go on the ride along with them. This is one of my favourite books by the author so far. it starts of slowly but I encourage readers to keep with it. I dont want to spoil this book for anybody as I think it's best that they go into this story blind for the first time. Its emotional, gut wrenching , epic and will keep in your mind long after you have read the last page . A beautiful story that left me list for words. I was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review

A man of secrets.

This was an easy listen by an author who adopts various guises according to her genres. I had read one other by Lissa Del, A Life Made of Lava, and I have to confess, this was always going to be a hard act to follow. I enjoyed Riven, but sadly, it couldn't compete with its predecessor. Sarah Holt is a motivated architecture student, top of her class and desperate to earn herself an internship into Burke & Duke. She sees this as her chance to learn from the subject's super-stars. When we meet her she is finishing an ill-advised relationship with one of her tutors. Meanwhile, along comes Leo - handsome, dashing Leo. What's a girl to do? A new relationship always brings a string of unknowns and Leo seems to be hiding more than most. I enjoyed discovering Leo's secrets and Sarah's reactions to them. But that ending!! Well read by Katlynn Millions.
