Publisher's Summary

Paradise has a price. For Jesse McDermitt, that price is his moral compass and a bullet.

The retired Marine and charter skipper takes on a passenger in Nassau, a young woman who is a breath of fresh air. She introduces him to the laid-back cruising crowd on an idyllic small cay in the Berry Islands. Jesse takes to the relaxing lifestyle like a fish to water.

Living each day on its own terms is a new experience for Jesse, but it doesn't last long. Trouble always seems to find him. When Jesse gets word that someone is destroying nearby patch reefs and poaching sea turtles - and that all this is happening in the same area where a trio of sadistic murderers may be hiding - it triggers his instincts for investigation.

Has Jesse's urge to find out the truth cost him everything? He came to the Bahamas on a fool's errand to reconnect with a lost love. The image of her on a beach in the Virgin Islands fills his mind as he passes out from loss of blood....

Change of pace for Jessie McDermitt...

This newest Jessie McDermitt book is excellent. This book might leave you wondering though if you do not read Enduring Charity first. The love of Jessie's life (Savanna) has taken off again and he decides to go after her this time. He purchases (for $10) the sail boat that had belonged to Charity Styles murdered lover and off he goes. Along the way he runs into turtle poachers and finds out that someone is destroying large parts of living coral reefs and finally comes face to face with an enemy he already knows. There's not a whole lot of action in this book as compared to others in this series. This book concentrates more on Jessie's needs/desires, but is he making a mistake? Nick Sullivan as expected gives an outstanding performance. This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS. If you found this review helpful please indicate so. Thank You.

Another wonderful Jesse McDermitt series novel

I want to reiterate a point made in another review: This novel will make more sense if Book 12 in the series is listened to first. The listener needs the background.

Diff title, diff supporting characters, same story

Stop now if you dont want a spoiler. To the author. Its quite clear now your original passion for writing is now just a passion for money. This is the exact same story basically written for the last 12 books. Same stupid imaginary sexual tension, same stupid lead character who you describe as a spy/intelligent person who still manages to be the dumbest lead character in history. He is nothing more than a macho idiot who continually defies or goes against any of the descriptions you spend an ungodly amount of time tryin to play up. I am sad that I didnt figure this out earlier and have contributed to the continuing money grab. To anyone reading who wants a spoiler, here's the jist of every book in this series. Jesse is described as a smart intelligent fighting machine. In reality hes dumb, makes mistakes, and causes others to get hurt and sometimes die. Throughout the story the author makes Jesse a ladies man who everyone wants, he always ends up with a woman and always ends up getting dumped and sulking like a teenage girl. Rinse and repeat and you have this series. It has potential to be good but it seems the author has run out of ideas, well mostly after book 2.
