About this listen

One minute, Kaelan’s a marketing exec with a dreary life. The next, he’s summoned by a gorgeous priestess into a world of swords, magic, and a warlord out for his blood. He’s not sure it’s an improvement until he learns the rewards are most certainly worth the risks. With unique and mighty powers to unlock, levels to gain, and some daring damsels on his team, can he survive long enough to save the kingdom?

This story would make more sense if all the main characters had a 9 for wisdom on their character sheets. Most of the interpersonal conflict only exists because the characters refuse to be open with eachother despite supposedly being in love. Constant misunderstandings, miscommunication, and lies of omission to create tedious drama. It's just not fun to read. The MC constantly thinks of important things he doesn't know, and then never actually asks about them. At least 3 times he regrets feeling dumb despite intelligence being his highest stat, at least 4 times he knows something is a bad call and does it anyway, I lost count of the number of times he recognised something as a mistake in hindsight and then went on to make a similar mistake again. Having your character feign self-awareness then continue to mess up is the worst of both worlds. The world/culture he ends up in considers sexual assault to just be a part of life, and the MC's super attractive because he's not into rape or slavery. Just... really? It feels so shallow and gross. The main antagonist wasn't the evil warlord, it was all the dumb decisions made along the way.
