Editorial reviews

Rider on the Storm collects stories and magazine articles by one of Australia’s most popular writers, Robert G. Barrett, who voices his own no-nonsense, politically incorrect prose in this audiobook.

The stories feature Barrett’s most famous fictional creation and alter ego, Les Norton, a hard-living Sydney night-club bouncer. In articles originally published in Penthouse and Playboy, Barrett offers his unvarnished opinions on acting, fine dining, and getting published.

Although those unfamiliar with Australian slang might find him hard to understand at first, Barrett’s gruff, blustery performance of his work, delivered as though from a bar stool, allows the warmth and humanity of his writing to shine.

Not the classic humour of the Les Norton series and a struggle to listen too at times, not nearly as well narrated compared to Dino Marnika.

I was expecting a Les Norton story

No good. I’ve really enjoyed the Les Norton series and thought this would be similar but it is just a dated collection of irrelevant stories.

Steer clear of this one- Stay with the Les Norton books
