About this listen

A gonzo ride through war-torn Yemen as only Chas Smith, the award-winning author of Welcome to Paradise, Now Go to Hell and Cocaine + Surfing: A Sordid History of Surfing's Greatest Love Affair, could provide. Follow Smith and his misfit band of merrymakers as they search for the true origins of Al Qaeda and endeavor to ride the unsurfed waves of Yemen all while exploring the slim opportunities for fun in the margins of our global war on terror and at any cost - even if it means eventual kidnapping by Hezbollah.

First off, if you're expecting a Barbarian Days story, don't bother with Reports from Hell, if you're expecting and informative account of war reporting, still don't bother. It is not either of those.

I found Chas writing to be full of cheesy one liners and 'bro' culture it subtracted from what could have been a decent story. In addition to the cheesy writing, the narrators voice seemed to emphasize it even more.

Not the worst audiobook i've listened too, but its far from the best. I think you credit/$ would be better spent on a Lawrence Wright book if you're looking for a war reporting story, OR Barbarian Days, Surf is where you'll find me, if you're chasing a surfing story.

Meh, bit of a let down.
