Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of the Gray Man series comes a startlingly realistic novel of World War III.

A desperate Kremlin takes advantage of a military crisis in Asia to simultaneously strike into Western Europe and invade east Africa in a bid to occupy three rare Earth mineral mines that will give Russia unprecedented control over the world's hi-tech sector for generations to come.

Pitted against the Russians are a Marine lieutenant colonel pulled out of a cushy Pentagon job, a French Special Forces captain and his intelligence operative father, a young Polish partisan fighter, an A-10 Warthog pilot, and the commander of an American tank platoon who, along with his German counterpart, fight from behind enemy lines.

Through grand land, sea, and air battles to a small unit fighting hand-to-hand in the jungle, Russia and the US face off in a terrifying but thrilling battle for world dominance - with constant the threat of a Russian nuclear detonation ever present.

Pretty good

Didn’t like the narrator much which wasn’t a great start. Absolutely love mark greany books but only really liked red metal.

Diabolically bad

Was this written by AI?
Trite characterisation -spoiler the Americans are astute and brave; the Russians are slow, stupid and robotic. Meanwhile the plot is ridiculously implausible . The writing drags on with long lists of weaponry and battle sequences which: spoiler - the plucky Americans or occasionally french win (almost) every time. I couldn’t finish it- which for me is rare I’m not usually an overly critical person but this book is truely bad.

Ouch!

I wish I had not used my credit for this. I have enjoyed all Greany’s books except this one. The narrator made it even worse. Sorry Mark!

Scary story

At first I thought there were too many characters, but it all came together. I like his style after listening to 12 grey man.

Well written and captivating

Enjoyed the book throughout. Good characters, believable storyline, crafted well. It’s a page turner that I wanted to continue reading beyond the end of the book.

enjoyed listening to this book particularly the fighting in Poland. the loss on the internet and GPS did make wonder about new tanks etc that rely on this technology and what would happen.

Really boring and poor book

See headline. Would not recommend - too full of boring technical details and poor characterisation.
