About this listen

'Action-packed, brilliantly unique' – Andy Weir, author of The Martian

A compulsive, mind-bending exploration of memory and what it means to be human, Recursion is a breathtaking thriller from the author of Dark Matter, Blake Crouch.

At first, it looks like a disease.

An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived.

But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shockwave, unleashed by a stunning discovery – and what’s in jeopardy is not just our minds.

In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth – and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery . . . and the tools for fighting back.

Together, Barry and Helena will have to confront their enemy – before they, and the world, are trapped in a loop of ever-growing chaos.

'Recursion takes mind-twisting premises and embeds them in a deeply emotional story about time and loss and grief and most of all, the glory of the human heart' – Gregg Hurwitz, author of Orphan X

Critic Reviews

Crouch isn’t just a world-class thriller writer, he’s a Philip K. Dick for the modern age. Recursion takes mind-twisting premises and embeds them in a deeply emotional story about time and loss and grief and most of all, the glory of the human heart (Gregg Hurwitz, international bestselling author of Orphan X)
It's not often I plough through a book in two days. But Blake Crouch’s action-packed, brilliantly unique Recursion had me up late and shirking responsibilities until I had devoured the last page. A fantastic read (Andy Weir, Number one New York Times bestselling author of The Martian)
Blake Crouch has invented his own brand of page-turner--fearlessly genre-bending, consistently surprising, and determined to explode the boundaries of what a thriller can be (Karin Slaughter)
Blake Crouch is brilliant. His innovative novels never fail to grip! (Sarah Pekkanen, bestselling co-author of The Wife Between Us)
This is a mind-twisting exploration of memory and what it means to be human. If you’re into thoughtful, fluidly written science fiction, this one will hit the mark
Blake Crouch's fantastic, mind-blowing philosophical thriller
Smart and twisty, Recursion will make you rethink everything you thought you know, not just about time travel, but about time itself
Praise for Dark Matter: Brilliant . . . I think Blake Crouch just invented something new (Lee Child)
Praise for Dark Matter: It also might be the most helter-skelter, race-to-the-finish-line thriller you'll read all year

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this book. It’s my first Crouch book and I’ll certainly be getting more.
With aspects of William Gibson ‘s The Peripheral but an entirely different look at time and memory. Almost the new Micheal Crichton, with his own unique way of looking at things.
Enjoyed the voice actors immensely.

A really interesting story

An enjoyable book that had be thinking hard trying to understand the timeline frequently (in a good way).

Mind twister

This is the sort of thing I'd expected Inception to be; like Inception when it's conventional it falls apart, but unlike Inception it waits for the very end to do that.

The idea of a lesson really doesn't belong in this mind-bending story. But listening as the story goes is so fun. there's barely a dull moment. I've reccomended this to three people now, and it's best to go in cold.

Enjoy the journey

This review may of course be written in a timeline that no longer exists. Nonetheless it is a mind bending and addictive story. Well worth the time… in any timeline!

Wow! But did our brains in…
