What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

I’ve listened to this more than 50 times
- By Sharam on 17-02-2019
Publisher's Summary
This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all-encompassing and ubiquitous, that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it. What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what? My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse. I am an addict, addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex, money, love and fame.
The program in Recovery has given Russell Brand freedom from all addictions, and it will do the same for you.
This system offers nothing less than liberation from self-centredness, a new perspective, freedom from the illusion of suffering for anyone who is willing to take the necessary steps.

Amazing help in my recovery from alcohol. I found AA old and outdated but this put a young up vibe and relatable approach to the 12 steps. Also taught me a lot about the 12 steps I didn't know, especially relating to the higher power.

There was never a point in the past that I imagined I would be receiving so many moments of spiritual clarity, let alone that they be delivered through the vessel of Russell Brand - but this book has helped me galvanise so many ideas that had been in the back of my mind before around addiction to materialism and status, and has grounded me with the reminder that “there’s nowhere to go, nothing to get”...
