The advice sounds fine, personally did not resonate with me (maybe because it's not the path I'm currently on) but it seems a fair and valid way to go. The whole idea of inverting finding work, by doing the work first and then reaching out for opportunities seems fine, but perhaps difficult and too broad to apply. Naturally such a general advice book will lack specificity for any industry but that is most of where the toil exists in my opinion.
