About this listen

Rebecca is widely regarded as Daphne du Maurier's finest novel. It tells the story of Manderley, an exquisite house with gardens down to the sea; its owner Max de Winter; and his new young wife. And, of course, Rebecca.

I was apprehensive about which audiobook version to buy as the reviews on the others were very mixed, and this one had none at all. But the performance was fantastic, the narrator sounded just like the character though her voice got a little quite at times.

I loved the story, short like a novella and left me feeling uneasy from all the anxiety. Gothic horror can truly be creepy if you go into it knowing nothing, which I recommend doing for this story if possible.

It is also an accessible read if you struggle with the classics, I didn't find the language or plot difficult to comprehend at all.

Lovely performance and gripping story
