Publisher's Summary

London's Slough House is where disgraced MI5 operatives are reassigned to spend the rest of their spy careers pushing paper.

But when one of these 'slow horses' is kidnapped by a former soldier bent on revenge, the agents uncover a larger web of intrigue that involves not only a group of private mercenaries but also the highest authorities in the Security Service.

After years spent as the lowest on the totem pole, the slow horses suddenly find themselves caught in the midst of a conspiracy that threatens not only the future of Slough House but of MI5 itself....

Terrific

Jackson Lamb is the 21st Century Hercule or Sherlock.

As sharp as a laser bevelled tack and as disgustingly offensive as chunky cat sick.

This man deserves a new word, curmudgeon barely describes his big toe.

Mick Herron triumphs again!

Superb plot. More fleshing out of characters who’ve become as familiar and annoying as family. Brilliant English humour and even sharper dispatching from Jackson Lamb who’s surely become an iconic figure in modern spy fiction. Or should be!
And Sean Barrett continues to perform at a level of genius that has me replaying passages again and again. Just because I can. Because he is truly excellent!!!

Splendid

This is the third of the Slough House trilogy and I was sorry to get to the end. I had grown fond of all the Slough House inhabitants, even the appalling Jackson Lamb, who gets most of the best lines, and the nerdy Roderick Ho. All three books are wildly implausible, but terrific fun and beautifully written. The narrator, Sean Barrett, does all the characters justice. The Slow Horses have all had a good outing, but I hope another trilogy with different characters is in the pipeline.

Undiluted enjoyment

Truly. If you like this genre, even if you don't, listen to this novel. It's my third in the Author's series and it is splendid. It is fascinating to see the ongoing characters sparkle and scintillate through a very nicely plotted yarn. The language is just right. Intelligent, descriptive and very, very amusing. there is enough action to suit everyone's taste and even recognisable villains or "goodies" abound..no matter. Tonnes of recognisable Reality offsets the fiction and makes you pleased that Goodness can still prevail over dangerous Nutcases. Please. Keep going Mr Herron- more Slow Horses please.

Complicated creatures

The third book in the Slough House series told by the deep soft purring voice of Sean Barrett. Excellent, gripping and humorous. The team, all stamped by their past bungles as "slow horses" or losers show yet again that despite machinations by the good and the great they can rise to any, even some, almost impossible tasks.

The series keeps getting better. More would be good as yet again we are left with loose ends!

Great series

Really enjoyable. Characters are interesting (I love that they are flawed and that I can judge them on their actions rather than the author telling me how wonderful/bad they are). Lots of twists. And Jackson lamb is glorious.
Narrator amongst the best.

Even better than Slow Horses

Cracking read! Fizzes with one liners. Would make a great TV series. Jackson Lamb is a superb character but to be fair all of the cast are really well fleshed out. Bring on the next book in the series....will Boris/P.J be P.M?

i am a big fan of the slow horses books , which i have only discovered recently. A big part of my enjoyment has been the quality of the narration. Thank you Sean Barrett.

Entertaining .

It took me a while to get used to the style of narration, monotone delivery, no break for new chapters or changes of scene. But once I did I could appreciate that this was a good way to deliver this series of books. Although it's about the British intelligence services, I do hope they bear little or no resemblance to this lot! Amusing, entertaining and full of interesting characters, ...... But not who you want protecting the country!

Absolutely brilliant! Can't praise highly enough

Jackson Lamb and the Slow Horses are inspired creations for the modern world of spying. Mick Herron's prose is in turns lyrical and and pithy. I hope he carries on writing because I really don't want to get to the end of this series.

Best Yet!

Tense, thrilling with a wonderful streak of sarcastic humour this is easily Herron's best yet.
