Das Schönste, was sich ein Junge im Alter von etwa 10 Jahren vorstellen kann: im Urwald mit all den Tieren groß geworden zu sein, sie zu seinen Freunden zählen zu können! Zumindest die Tiere, die zu einer echten Freundschaft zum Menschen fähig sind. So zum Beispiel für Ravi, dessen Vertrauter "Bayo" geworden ist, der junge Elefantenbulle. Die Geschichte von Ravi spielt allerdings nicht im alten Indien der britischen Kolonialzeit, sondern erst vor Kurzem; und auch da gab es noch genügend gefährliche Abenteuer zu bestehen - wie eigentlich überall auf der Welt.
