About this listen

Audible narration by Janina Gavankar (True Blood)

In the near future, if Vegas games are ingeniously scam-proof, then the heists have to be too, in this imaginative and whip-smart story by the New York Times bestselling author of The Martian.

An IT whiz at the Babylon Casino is enlisted to upgrade security for the game of keno and its random-number generator. The new quantum computer system is foolproof. But someone on the inside is no fool. For once the odds may not favor the house - unless human ingenuity isn’t entirely a thing of the past.

Andy Weir’s Randomize is part of Forward, a collection of six stories of the near and far future from out-of-this-world authors. Each piece can be read or listened to in a single thought-provoking sitting.

I love how stories from Andy Weir never go where you think they would go. For me it is hard to beat The Egg for Weir’s short stories but none of them have ever been a disappointment. I would love another book from this masterful craftsman, but luckily the short stories are really terrific and leaves one thinking about it afterwards(especially The Egg for the way it left me feeling happy).

I waited until I had some cash credit on my account to buy this story and I am happy to finally be able to hear it. For those disappointed it wasn’t a book I would recommend paying directly for short stories and not using your Audible credits. The author doesn’t need to be punished for publishing short stories. It does show how long the story is and after all Andy Weir has published many short stories. For the price of less than a cup of coffee this tale is worth it.

Not exactly what I expected as an Andy weir fan, however it was definitely worth the $3.

quick but enthralling

Okay, but do not dash out to buy or sprain a finger whilst downloading.
Not recommended.

I can’t believe I used a whole credit for a 50 minute episode. Thought I was getting a whole book. Disappointed.

Hard to look past the fact that random number generators use external sensors ie: light, sound to generate a random number based on unrepeatable environment data.

No need to use “quantum computing” so makes the whole story stupid.

Based on inaccurate info.
