Nacktschnecke Rainer Maria ist trübsinnig, trinkt gerne Bier und liebt die Gedichte von Rilke. Auf der Suche nach dem Sinn des Lebens außerhalb seines feuchten Erdlochs lernt Rainer Maria in der Nähe eines Gourmetrestaurants Tiger Lilly Prawn kennen, ein in Not geratenes italienisches Garnelenweibchen. Lilly hält ihn zunächst für ein Monster, lässt sich aber mangels Alternative dennoch von ihm retten. Er organisiert ihre Flucht und begleitet sie in einem Lieferwagen nach Hause an die Adria. Dort trennen sich ihre Wege vorerst, und Rainer Marias Illusion vom ewigen Schneckenglück in einer Shrimpsfarm zerbricht. Doch schon wenig später muss Tiger Lilly, die erneut in die Fänge der Nahrungsmittelindustrie geraten ist, ein weiteres Mal befreit werden...
