About this listen

In Radio Free Albemuth, his last novel, Philip K. Dick morphed and recombined themes that had informed his fiction from A Scanner Darkly to VALIS and produced a wild, impassioned work that sounds like a visionary alternate history of the United States. Agonizingly suspenseful, darkly hilarious, and filled with enough conspiracy theories to thrill the most hardened paranoid, Radio Free Albemuth is proof of Dick's stature as our century's greatest science fiction writer.

Since this deals with Philip K Dick coming to terms with his religious experience and includes a lot of material concerning his theology, it is recommended only for the reader interested in understanding PKD. I found it a much better take on VALIS, but to some extent I think that is because I recently read Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy. PKD is actually making a detailed statement about his beliefs in the context of the canon of Western metaphysics in the form of a science fiction book, so I imagine the readership is small and specialised
