About this listen

Charlie Jardim has just trashed his legal career in a spectacular courtroom meltdown, and his girlfriend has finally left him. So when a colleague slings him a prosecution brief for the remote coastal town of Dauphin, Charlie reluctantly agrees to go.

The case is murder. The victim was involved in illegal abalone trading and even more illegal drug trafficking. And the witnesses aren't talking. As Dauphin closes ranks around him, Charlie finds his interest in the law powerfully reignited.

"Shades of Jack Irish and a hint of Rake." ( Good Reading)
"Serong's prose is evocative, his dialogue convincing, and the atmosphere of small-town life pungently suggested." ( Canberra Times)

Has all the right ingredients but something went wrong in the kitchen. That's life I guess.

Not noire.

I listen to this audio book and appreciate the narrator being Australian. Enjoyed the story and the tangled web of intrigue Jock Serong wove. The court room and small town shenanigans were so vividly described. Worth a listen (and read).

So Australian

A great listen, very Australian and engrossing.
I read (Listened) to Quota fresh from reading The Rules of Backyard Cricket. I enjoyed both immensely.
Characters were well developed and authentic.
BUT: The opening is a little incorrect. If a Judge went on the way the Judge did in the book. It would be grounds for a miss trial.

Other than that Quota is a very enjoyable book, open to a sequel and I look forward to the next Jock Serong Book.
Simon Harvey is a good narrator and gave the book its authenticity.

I really enjoy Jock Sarong’s style. The characters are believable and the story line has me committed right to the end….and I really enjoy the dry humour.

I was tossing up between rating this story 3 or 4 stars. The main story is 3 star, but the personality of the lawyer Charlie Jardim is absolutely 5 star. I'll be looking for more books from this author.

An interesting story about small-town life, connections, crime families and relationships. Excellent narration.

Jock Serong has got me enjoying fiction again after university studies snuffed the fun! Yeehaa

A salty read!
