Publisher's Summary
Dazzling, hilarious, disturbing and utterly unforgettable new novel from the author of the Man Booker-shortlisted A Fraction of the Whole.
Intensely moving, darkly funny and hugely entertaining, Quicksand focuses on the multifaceted dynamics between the protagonists Aldo and Liam: lifelong friends, criminal and police officer, muse and writer. As well as being a compulsively funny work, Quicksand also offers its reader a profound exploration of fate, suffering and resilience; a gruelling yet illuminating depiction of physical disability; and a subversive portrait of 21st-century society in all its hypocrisy and absurdity.

On a scale of 1 to Steve Toltz, how quotable are you?
If you love quotes, read this book. It's jam packed with wit, laugh out loud humour and what I can only describe as an Australian way of storytelling for which I adore and admire Steve Toltz. There's reality, and then there's reality as told by Toltz - with all of real-life's ugly truths depicted in hilariously beautiful prose. His storytelling style is incomparable and by far one of my favourites. Loved it!

Dark humour at its best.
If you loved fraction of a whole you'll love this too. Brilliantly narrated. Fantastic writer. Can't wait for his next one.

Full of great one-liners but boring as a novel
Some interesting characters but long and tedious monologues in parts. Wouldn't recommend if you are after a plot driven novel - this is certainly not that.
