About this listen

The fifth book in the captivating series which follows the lives of Beth and Alex MacGregor, their family, and friends.

The rebellion is over. Prince Charles is in hiding, the Jacobite clans are scattered to the four winds, and in Inverness, the Duke of Cumberland plans a brutal retribution against the Highlanders who rose against his father. His intention: to ensure they can never rise again.

Alex, knowing Beth to be dead, leads his men into a vicious war of attrition against the British Redcoats, who have destroyed everything in life he ever held dear. Only his desire for revenge keeps him alive.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Cumberland is hatching a plan that he is confident will reveal the true identity of Sir Anthony Peters, the man who made a fool of the king, the duke, and all society. A man he wishes to capture alive, more than anyone else.

Join the continuing rebellion of the MacGregors and their fight for revenge and survival in The Jacobite Chronicles.

The new narrator detracts from the story. Having got this far in the series, i suppose I will finish.. but if she had narrated book 1 would not have gone any further.

Awful narration - bring back Rosalyn Landor

I am a big fan of Julia’s books and have thoroughly enjoyed them being released on audiobooks . It took me a little while to get used of the new female narrator Lucy, but I was soon wrapped up in the continuation of this wonderful story to notice the change. Through Beth and Alex’s story we learn of the dreadful aftermath of the battle of Culloden, Cumberland’s brutal cleansing of the highlands and the resilience and spirit of the highlanders not to go down without a fight. The combination of Julia’s wonderful characters, story telling ability. wrapped around well researched historical events and the people involved in the events, is what makes make her books so good. Having them come to life on audiobook is a real bonus. Love Will’s narration. Looking forward to Tides of Fortune.

Loved it

The continuing journey of Beth and Anthony has had me on tenterhooks. I have been moved from laughter to tears through the series and have also loved the historical accuracy. Having visited the highlands and many of the battle sites of the Jacobites I am in awe of all the clans and Scots for what they have endured. To Julia Brannan; thank you for your research, dedication to history and fabulous storytelling. To the narrators; thank you for bringing all the characters and history to life.

Fabulous

I don't know why Rosalyn Landor was not used for Book 5, but this new narrator makes a heavy breathing noise on the end of every sentence. It made this book unbearable to listen to. What a shame! 😡 I was loving the series, up to this book. The male narrator carried the book, and I enjoyed listening to his narration (without wincing as I did the rest of the book).

Terrible female narration

I loved the story and the narration. I didn't mind the female role and love Will.

I loved it.
