About this listen

Psychedelics and the Unconscious draws from the two-time tested domains of depth psychology and world mythology to produce a framework for the exploration of consciousness with psychedelics. The framework found in this text is a co-creative mythos on which to build one’s efforts at consciousness expansion by accessing the unconscious mind. The central mythos presented by the author is that of psychedelics and marijuana bringing us down the spectrum of consciousness toward the mysterious and powerful forces of the unconscious mind.

The conceptual framework presented is supported by drawing numerous parallels to hero mythology where the Underworld is allegorical for the unconscious. The framework presented in the text uses the depth psychology of Carl Jung and the mythological studies of Joseph Campbell as raw materials for the readers co-creative exploration. The author also draws upon his own experience with psychedelics in dismantling the Ego’s self-defense mechanisms for unguarded self-observation.

The self-observation tool of active imagining meditation is explicated in detail for use in accessing the restorative and synthesizing properties of the unconscious. The journey is concluded with a deep dive into the authors own experiential knowledge of the dark recesses of the unconscious which Jung referred to as the Shadow...where only the courageous dare tread.
