About this listen

I’m proud to be a geek.

I’m smart, but I’m also awkward and somewhat socially inept—forever doomed to live in the shadow of my dead brother.

My job as a research engineer is amazing, though, and recently, I’ve managed to make some friends in my hometown of Forestville.

But when the wrong people show too much interest in my latest invention, my boss wants me protected. Despite my fierce protests, I end up back in Forestville. With a bodyguard who poses as my boyfriend.

Quillon is nothing like I had expected. He’s my opposite, but we connect in ways I never saw coming, and for the first time, I don’t feel alone. He takes care of me like no one ever has.

Oh, and he’s also extremely hot, which is fascinating because I’ve always thought I was straight. Apparently not.

But is this just a temporary thing or could it be forever?

Protecting the Nerd is the fourth book in the Forestville Silver Foxes series, a contemporary small-town MM romance series featuring hot silver foxes and the men who fall in love with them. Each book can be listened to as a standalone. Please check the trigger warnings in the front of the book.

This is a fake relationship to more romance, featuring York and Quillon, and is the forth book in the Forestville Silver Foxes series.

York is a genius and someone who works on top secret projects. His work has caught the attention of some bad people and there is a threat on his life. In steps Quillon, he has been hired as York’s bodyguard. Quillon knew York’s brother, they were both marines in the same training camp but Quillon can tell there is something about his relationship with his brother that isn’t quite right.

This was a pretty light book for the first half, York has a bi-awakening and both MCs jump head first into their feelings and then the tension drops and they things go crazy. There’s suspense, angst, drama. It was different from the rest of the series, but it was a great read. York is such a beautiful character.

There are a couple of novellas related to this series which I’ve read one already but I instead to read the other one next.

Things to expect in this MM romance are:

Story of York and Quillon

York is super-intelligent and in need of protection from foreign governments who are keen to steal his inventive IT. York still lives in the shadow of his older brother, Essex, who bullied him relentlessly as a child. Although Essex died years ago, York’s parents still grieve and idolise him over York. Consequently, York left the small town of Forestville and avoids visiting but his protection detail feels it’s a safer place to guard him. Quillon has been assigned to guard York under the guise of being his boyfriend but soon falls for the enigmatic man. Will his new found feelings interfere with his ability to do his job?

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series but for me this was the weakest book. York was written as neuro-divergent but this was never named or explored and I felt that was a missed opportunity. I was also unconvinced by how quickly the pair fell in love, especially since York had never had a same-sex relationship before, it all seemed unrealistic. So what did I like? Well, the York / Essex conflict was interesting and well-explored. I also loved the foreign government interference. Usually these sorts of dangers bookend the romance and are resolved quickly—this was much more involved and exciting. While I was unconvinced by the romance, Nora is great at sizzling sex scenes and these bolstered the romance well. 🎧 Michael Dean is a champion and I always love his narrations—another great job here!

Unconvincing romance but interesting story!
