Publisher's Summary

Elena

To most, Kal Anderson is a villain. Harbinger of death, keeper of souls, frequenter of nightmares. Doctor Death. Hades incarnate. They say he stole me. Usurped my fiancé and filled the cracks in my heart with empty promises. Imprinted his crimson fingerprints on my psyche and tried to set me free. They’re not wrong, per se.

Except it was my choice to stay.

Kal

To most, Elena Ricci is an innocent. Goddess of springtime, lover of poetry, angel of my nightmares. Little one. Persephone personified. They say I ruined her. Shattered her virtue and devoured her soul like a succulent pomegranate. Embedded my evil as deep as I could possibly get and tried to set her free. They’re not wrong, per se.

Except it was she who ruined me.

Promises and Pomegranates is a full-length, stand-alone dark contemporary romance inspired by the Hades and Persephone myth. It is not fantasy or a literal retelling.

Spicy and darkly divine.

This was kind of beautiful and gorgeous, very dramatic and very spicy. It was a helluva soap opera. It’s a dark mafia romance set in contemporary times and uses the myth of Hades and Persephone as a metaphor for the nature of the relationship between Elena and Kal. It’s wonderfully dark, Kal especially is so troubled. I liked it.

3.5 STARS

Took me a bit to get into it, was great easy listening while I studied.
I wish it was darker, but was still a very good book. Will definitely continue the series.

Mixed feelings - 3.5 Stars

I had such mixed feelings this book, especially after all the great reviews this book got, but unfortunately it just didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The author’s writing style was really good and did not disappoint, but the storyline, which was loosely based on a modern retelling of Hades and Persephone, was not my favourite… and then again it wasn’t the worst I’ve ever read.

I personally found the age gap between the MC’s to be an issue (she was 18 (a mere child) and he was 32), so some their interactions were a bit disconnected and frustrating at times. It also felt as though the author was trying too hard with the sex scenes, and there were sooo many… making it a bit boring and so annoying to listen to after a while, even though they were really well written. 🌶🌶🌶

I though the narrator did an excellent job bringing the book to life, but I haven’t decided whether I want to continue with the series in the future.

PS. I absolutely love the book cover. I think it’s so beautiful!

Just don't

This is a struggle to get through. I'm sure the voice actors did the best they could with the material provided, but this is not well written. It has multiple plot holes, characters are immature, irrational, and poorly developed. If someone told me that the author was a self published 14 year old, I would have zero difficulty in believing them. I would rather endure the entire Twilight series again than to pre-order this author's next release as has just been suggested by Audible.
