There is great confusion in the market concerning positions for project professionals, and it is very common to see advertising opportunities for project managers that require academic expertise, PMP certification, and extensive experience in projects. There are also vacancies for project managers where it is crucial that the professional has a great capacity to perform technical functions, such as software programming.

These are just two superficial examples of how many people find the market a bit confusing, not only for the definition of the function name, but mainly the functions to be performed by professionals.

One of the reasons for this whole mess is that the marketplace has no official definition, formally recognized, of a project manager. Even the position of project manager is relatively new.
