About this listen

The apex of the martial arts calls out. It challenges all to ascend.

Long Chao is the son of a hedge mage — a heretic cultivator. He doesn’t cultivate for power, but to satisfy his endless curiosity.

One fateful day, Xiao Huifen, a girl aiming to be the youngest Sky Realm cultivator in the Monolith continent’s history, crashes into his life. She’s from the world of top-ranked sects and strict cultivation methodologies. They share nothing in common except for the unquenchable desire to unlock heaven’s every mystery.

This is their journey.

However, the brightest glory casts the darkest shadow. Strength begets brutality. Long-life begets the foulest perversions. To those who dwell in the darkness, young cultivators such as them are nothing more than some of the finest resources. To use them as slaves. Refine them into pills.

When faced with such depravity, this unorthodox pair must do all they can to survive. Even if they do, how can they hope to remain unchanged?

This is a coming-of-age story that follows two paths to power. For one, it's long and arduous. Despite his unique insights, Long Chao must always strive to keep up with those around him. For the other, strength comes easy. Xiao Huifen isn't competing against her peers, but the vague legends of Divine cultivators.

this book is Soo good the only gripe I have is the narrator's take turns on chapters instead of voicing individual characters

anything by Apollos Thorne is great

While the narration falls a little flat at times, the handoff between chapters of the main characters and the dual male and female voices were great overall.

This is also a fantastic beginning for a classic cultivation epic (other than one of the main events that still doesn’t sit quite right with me personally.. but.. that’s more, as I say a personal preference).

For the most part, we follow our 2 main characters as they find out what they really care about, face off against plots most foul and pompous cultivators that dare to show off their might to their lessers.

For as long and amazing as this book is, it is absolutely worth the credit if you are interested in this style of fantasy.

Fantastic Cultivation Epic

It’s a good book. The characters have depth and emotion. The story itself feels like it was meant to be 2 books but was made into one but that’s great because I wouldn’t want to have waited for more books like I do now. The voices were great from both narrators. overall 15/15

Good book

Starts out well enough, but after you start getting into the story it turns into a complete emotional sink that ruins any meaningful development up to that point. I wish I’d seen a review to spoil the cheap trauma shock before I started so I didn’t waste my time.

Completely ignores character development for shock value.

The story seemed pretty good but have mercy do the voice actors make this seem to be the most dullest emotionless drab you will listen to

Decent story, god awful performance
