About this listen

"In my dreams, I saw a city fall into the sea. I heard the cries of thousands. I saw flames that outshone the lamps of heaven. And all the world was shaken..."

At the novel's centre: the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, hero, leader, irresistible force, irrepressible spirit, battling (and ultimately reconciling with) a strange otherworldly form that has taken possession of his undead body and soul.

This ancient and mysterious power and unearthly spirit of vampire lore has all the force, history and insidious reach of the unknowable universe. It is through this spirit, previously considered benign for thousands of vampire years and throughout the Vampire Chronicles, that we come to be told the hypnotic tale of a great sea power of ancient times - a mysterious heaven on earth situated on a boundless continent - and of how and why this force came to build and rule the great legendary empire of centuries ago that thrived in the Atlantic Ocean.

And as we learn of the mighty powers of this lost kingdom of Atalantaya, the lost realms of Atlantis, we come to understand its secrets and how and why the vampire Lestat, indeed all the vampires, must reckon so many millennia later with the terrifying force of this ageless, all-powerful Atalantaya spirit.

My first Anne Rice as Audiobook and thought it was amazing. Definitely recommend. The voice acting was especially good.

Very entertaining

I love the series and the narrator brings the stories to life. I listen to the vampire chronicles over and over.

best narrator

i loved the first 3 chronicles as a teenager. and I'd dabbled with a few others I liked - Marius and Armands stories and I even liked the one about Quinn on Blackwood farm. you cant tell me this was by the same author. aliens and atlantis. ridiculous. no subversion, no antagonists, no stakes, not much except her usual prose about Lestat being a heartful brat. a good 50 to 60% of the middle of the book was just exposition and back story of the aliens who I couldn't care less about.

big let down

I have always enjoyed the vampire chronicles. Loved some of the stories. But this one, realms of Atlantis. I struggled to stay interested, I’m very sad to say. However, it did tie up some loose ends that was both pleasing (memnock) and disappointing (Quinn). And the premise of the plot was good. Just too many new characters with their own back stories. Wished author would have further developed known (loved or hated) characters from previous books that were just in the background with little to no action. Book started very promising.
