Story
Matt Fitzgerald has already made a name for himself in the endurance-sport community with books like 80/20 Running, How Bad Do You Want It?, and Iron War. He is an accomplished amateur runner, but if he follows the training, nutrition, and lifestyle of an elite runner, just how fast could he go? He is approaching his mid-40s, so the time to do this is now. He at last has the financial means to do nothing but train.
Publisher's Summary
Primal Endurance shakes up the status quo and challenges the overly stressful, ineffective conventional approach to endurance training. While marathons and triathlons are wildly popular and bring much gratification and camaraderie to the participants, the majority of athletes are too slow, continually tired, and carry too much body fat respective to the time they devote to training. The prevailing "chronic cardio" approach promotes carbohydrate dependency, overly stressful lifestyle patterns, and ultimately burnout.
Mark Sisson, author of the 2009 best seller, The Primal Blueprint, and de-facto leader of the primal/paleo lifestyle movement, expertly applies primal lifestyle principles to the unique challenge of endurance training and racing. Unlike the many instant and self-anointed experts who have descended upon the endurance scene in recent years, Sisson and his co-author/business partner, Brad Kearns, boast a rich history in endurance sports. Sisson has a 2:18 marathon and fourth-place Hawaii Ironman finish to his credit, has spearheaded triathlon's global anti-doping program for the International Triathlon Union, and has coached/advised leading professional athletes, including Olympic triathlon gold and silver medalist Simon Whitfield and Tour de France cyclist Dave Zabriskie. Under Sisson's guidance, Kearns won multiple national championships in duathlon and triathlon, and rose to a number-three world triathlon ranking in 1991.
Primal Endurance applies an all-encompassing approach to endurance training that includes primal-aligned eating to escape carbohydrate dependency and enhance fat metabolism, building an aerobic base with comfortably paced workouts, strategically introducing high-intensity strength and sprint workouts, emphasizing rest, recovery, and an annual periodization, and finally cultivating an intuitive approach to training instead of the usual robotic approach of fixed weekly workout schedules.

Awesome book.
Informative, motivational and entertaining. This book helped get me back on track with good eating habits and I finally feel like I know the right way to train and recover. Time will tell, but right now I would highly recommend this approach (especially the diet side) to everyone. As a side note, those trying a ketogenic diet should also expiriment with laying off the dairy and even coconut milk. Elimination diets are always good, maybe after you've weened yourself off the sugar addiction. Thanks for the book!

Balanced and intelligent
Primal Endurance is a balanced and intelligent approach to achieving your fitness and health goals. The information is detailed and requires the adoption of a periodization form of planning ones training over long periods of time. The aim is to optimise the health of ones internal organs and hormones while gradually building a fitness base, thus avoiding heart disease and the ageing effects associated with popular endurance training methods.

Needs PDF
Would you listen to Primal Endurance again? Why?
Yes, loaded with tons of useful information.
What other book might you compare Primal Endurance to and why?
Possibly "Grain Brain" or "Keto Clarity" it seems to provide revolutionary information that just isn't mainstream yet.
What does Brad Kearns bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Its a long book and he makes it very entertaining to listen to!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I thought the information was incredible.
Any additional comments?
This book absolutely needs PDF. There is so much information in there and would make it so much easier to follow after you finish. Please get this done! Otherwise great book!

Wish it had a PDF included.
Good book but missing the Graphical representation it mentions repeatedly. Honestly it should be a no brainier that if I purchase the audio book or PDF it should be a combo buy if graphics are always mentioned. There are many solutions to this problem like. Just provide the Charts and tables mentioned only. Or host the PDF charts and tables online. Another solution combo the PDF and audio book together if the author insist on referring the charts and tables repeatedly. I almost purchased the 21 day plan from audible but glad I did not since many reviews stated that it referred so much to graphics that the audiobook was a huge waste of time and money since the book cannot stand on its on in audio. To me that's a big fail. Audio is the least resistance path to gaining the knowledge in a book based off time and reading level. It should have a bigger audience at least for fiction. Non fiction should not be hindering this by providing an incomplete version of the authors work. Especially if the price is basically the same. Perhaps I will start an audible spinoff that addresses this issue. If I can do just that better perhaps I too can become like Mark Cuban.

Good information but drags on and on and on
Would you consider the audio edition of Primal Endurance to be better than the print version?
NO...I believe the print would bet better.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Anything not so draining.
What didn’t you like about Brad Kearns’s performance?
Nice voice but after the constant repeats became annoying.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The information regarding running and heart rate was very informative.
Any additional comments?
I am a tell me once and I get it type of person. This book was too wordy and everything was repeated to such a level I felt I caught myself rolling my eyes. "Not again...."

Excellent book filled with great advice
What did you like most about Primal Endurance?
I loved this book and worked through it in a few days. Brad's narration was great and I found it entertaining. The first chapter summarising the book is really helpful for reviewing. Exercise recommendations around staying below aerobic threshold, periodisation and sprinting were all excellent. Still unsure about MSP strength training. There seems to be very little out there on this lifting routine to validate it yet but I'll incorporate it into my workouts and see how it goes.
The chapters on diet exceptional as always. I've lost stones of weight following low carb high fat. The science is legit.
The only negative point about the audiobook which is why I didn't give it 5 stars overall was that there is no accompanying PDF. Some of the schedules, diagrams and especially the warm up exercises need to be included as a separate PDF. If that changes then I'll give it the full 5 stars.

Brilliant lifestyle change!
Been doing this for 2 and a half months and I've lost 30 pounds, and I've never had do much energy! I've not felt like I was on a diet a day of it and I feel better in most ways than when I've been fit before, more energy, sharper mind, no little strains on my body. I'm working my way back down from 290 pounds so my fitness won't be where it was until I'm a bit lower but whenever I've done other diets, training regime's, it's felt like a slog and only will power would get me there, but I have enjoyed every minute of this and can't recommend it enough!

I have so much more energy
This is an excellent book, a few weeks into changing my lifestyle and eating habits I have much more energy, less aches and pains and my endurance is rocketing upwards. I often find fitness books quite hard to sit down and read cover to cover, but having this as an audiobook (excellently narrated by Brad Kearns) has enabled me to listen to it a couple of times already. There is so much to take from this book for both beginners and elite runners, thank you Mark and Brad.

Nice alternative for training
I like running long distances but I've been always victim of injuries (shin splints, runner's knee...) and with problems while refueling(consuming 3+ gels during marathon). With this approach I've rekindled my passion for running.

Interesting ideas that could be condensed
Very repetitive but interesting ideas. Lots of good take home messages. Could definitely be shortened by about 5 hours without all the recaps and repeats.

A must read for any endurance junky
A must read for anyone interested in any form of endurance sport, a bit of advice: listen at least twice to get the full benefit.

A lot of interesting info
There's a lot of interesting information in this book, seems well researched and logical, and pretty clearly explained for the most part. There is also a lot of repetition and sometimes it felt a little like a long infomercial, but overall, in balance, I think it was worth it, I got a lot of interesting things out of it and am adapting my training and eating already with the feeling that there is a lot of good science behind it and it's worth a try.

Interesting but with little practical guidance
I found this book interesting to listen to however there was very little practical guidance that would easily allow me to put the principles in place in my own life.
