Too much personal drama.

I read book 1 of the series, and it was better than this. Sadly this book contains more info on her personal life and her son than any legal mystery/thriller should. The narrator is absolutely superb, and I wanted to like it so I could listen to such great performance. But this lead character is melodramatic. She is always in a state of shock and awe and pain bc of her boring personal story. Takes away from the rest of this.

Wanted a trial / investigation story, not this

For every page involving a really interesting murder you get at least 3 pages of the prosecutor's failed marriage, her husband's mistress, her feelings about her son, her mother's opinion on all of this -- basically the story line of a good chick flick. I'd like to find out what happens with the retrial but cannot wade through the garbage any more. Character development is one thing, a bit of romance can enhance a good story (as with Ellis Peters' Cadfael books) but this is just too much!

Another Great One

I love Robin James. This is another fantastic Mara Brent book and I can't wait to see where these characters go next.
