the worst.

the reader having an American accent for an English recency novel did match up to standard. He also had breathing difficulty as her couldn't read properly, needing to pause for breath constantly spoiling the story, The piano playing was also loud and distracting better without it.

Excruciating to listen to the reader

I love Georgette Heyer books and have read most and listened to several, but I was astounded when the reader was a gravely voiced man with a terrible American accent who could not pronounce most of the titles or the names, and murdered the French. I was so disappointed and I could not finish it. I will have to get the book to see how all things worked out.

Not well presented

This rating has nothing to do with the novel and everything to do with the recording. One of the anticipated joys of hearing a Georgette Heyer novel as an audio book is to hear the vernacular in which it was written. This version doesn't live up to my expectations. The narrator doesn't even pretend to put the story into context. I will return it as soon as possible.

Poor quality

Really poor recording, the sound quality dreadful really fuzzy only listened to the first short section before I gave up. Listen and read to lots of other stories from this author but haven't used this voice over production before.

not worth it!

I have been particularly collecting Georgette Heyer and other audio titles for year and this is absolutely the WORST audio book I have ever had the misfortune to buy.
The readers voice is monotonous and totally lacking in any inflection or characterisation. I'm sorry i didn't ask for a refund within the time frame. The nexus or BBC audio books are the best

Powder and Patch appalling audiobook

This has piano music going on in the back ground at all times which distracts from the narration. The narrator is appalling with frequent gaps between words with not thought to the meaning. Unfortunately, this makes the audiobook completely unlistenable.

Truly awful

Words can’t describe just how badly the narrator murdered the text. Plus the tinny music in the background added a certain something to the awfulness of the whole.

Don't buy this version

It's cheap for a reason - the amateurish American narration makes it impossible to listen to and out of context for a very English story.

What on Earth is this?

Terrible vocals, dreadful recording, irritating and unnecessary music. How does one get a refund?
This is impossible to listen to, and should never have been sold.

I love the book to read for myself but this narration is dreadful. I had to delete it from my kindle. Don't waste your money on this version.

Narrator and audio ruined it

Sadly I couldn’t get beyond the first chapter. There is constant and very off putting piano music in the background and the narrator drawls through the words in an American accent as if telling a story round a fireside making it very difficult to understand or follow. Completely inappropriate style of narration for an English Regency novel. I gave up and had to buy with a different narrator and without the annoying background music as I couldn’t take it. This is in no way a comment on Georgette Heyers novel as I did not get far enough in to comment on the story and I am a huge fan of her work.
