Under cover of night in Richmond, Virginia, a human monster strikes, leaving a gruesome trail of stranglings that has paralysed the city. Medical examiner Kay Scarpetta suspects the worst: a deliberate campaign by a brilliant serial killer whose signature offers precious few clues. With an unerring eye, she calls on the latest advances in forensic research to unmask the madman. But this investigation will test Kay like no other, because it’s being sabotaged from within - and someone wants her dead.

Scarpetta Saves The Day!

Kay Scarpetta was my first strong female role model. I discovered Patricia Cornwell at about 15, and the Scarpetta stories inspired me to aim high and be independent. Listening to this audio book rekindled my love for the series. Lorelei did an amazing job performing this novel! I can't wait to listen to the next one!

character representation

Whilst the story line was slow at some points, readers are given all aspects of the characters thoughts and emotions and sometimes little hints to help the most avid listener solve the case as quick as Scarpetta

if this was the 1st Scarpetta book a little background info in prelude would have been handy.

It felt like I was reading 2nd book of series, but still thoroughly enjoyed reading it. picked up bits I missed in previous read.

For a First Title, Really Engaging

Ms. Cornwall’s writing style is extremely enjoyable. It grips you early, the characters are engaging and while some of the character’s voices were a bit grating, the overall listening experience is a positive one. This is a great introduction to audiobooks of Ma. Cornwall’s Scarpetta Series. I’d highly recommend it.

Did not disappoint

I was caught up from the beginning & found myself wanting to get back to the story whenever I could after taking a break. Very well written & easy to follow.

Disappointed

Was expecting more. Narrations fantastic! The story just lacked something. Anyway can’t have a winner all the time!
