Scarpetta Saves The Day!

Kay Scarpetta was my first strong female role model. I discovered Patricia Cornwell at about 15, and the Scarpetta stories inspired me to aim high and be independent. Listening to this audio book rekindled my love for the series. Lorelei did an amazing job performing this novel! I can't wait to listen to the next one!

OK but not much of a plot.

I am amazed this series went on to sell millions. It is full of cardboard characters and has a tissue thin plot line.

Very good

Had to stick with it for the first hour or so! Very glad I did. Very good story. Excellent narrator.
I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I could be hooked on these!

Won't bother again

I can't understand how Patricia Cornwall has achieved such success. Nothing gripped me in this novel suffice to say I can't even recall most of it.
A different narrator may have improved things a tad as I found Lorelei's monotone drawl nothing short of irritating.

Very nice book and perfect interpretation

Suspense up until the end and the narrator changes voices for every single character, she is impressive!

intriguing murder story

This is the first time I've read Patricia Cornwell and I plan to read more. A bit remeniscent if some if the Bones books and some of the writing is 'of its time', but it kept me gripped until the end. Lorelei King is great narrator.

Chillingly good

Exceptional, not only is this a well crafted, imaginative piece of suspense but a fascinating insight into the real world of forensic pathology. I also appreciated the way Patricia Cornwell depicts the chauvinism of the time. She highlights sexist nuances that are generally overlooked, not always obvious but a gentle drip, drip that only women are used to. Hopefully male readers will see what I mean and be surprised, as it really is an invisible but constant presence in our lives. (Getting better over time).
The narration is great, reminds me of Kathleen Turner's VI Warshawski, soft hypnotic American in stark contrast to the brutal storyline.
This isn't for the faint hearted but it is thrilling so worth trying if you're unsure. I'm delighted to have found such a brilliant author amidst all the mediocrity.

Full of herself

Normally love Patricia Cornwell books but found this one to be rather dull, the niece annoying and the heroine full of her own importance. Not sure if this is an early book and I have only read the later ones. Definitely not her best.

A bit over rated

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I can't pin point what I didn't like about the story; I think it's more that if feels like just another thriller in the middle if other several million thrillers, nothing exciting about it.

Would you recommend Postmortem to your friends? Why or why not?

Not really; as I mentioned, there is nothing special about it.

Any additional comments?

The ending was a bit of a let down and unfortunately it has put me off any other Scarpetta series books.
