Lots of history before the eruption

I was a bit disappointed that only the last chapter described the eruption in any detail (I enjoyed this chapter the most). It was good to get an overall history of Pompeii before the eruption in 79CE, but I would have preferred this to be summarised and more chapters be devoted to the time directly before, during & after the eruption, as well as more detail on the excavation & what can be seen today.
