Georg Kreisler wird 1922 in Wien in ein jüdisches Elternhaus hineingeboren. Seine Kindheit ist nicht glücklich, und sie wird überschattet von Ausgrenzung und wachsendem Antisemitismus. 1938 gelingt es Kreisler nach dem "Anschluss" Österreichs quasi in letzter Minute mit seinen Eltern in die USA zu fliehen. Dort wird er bald in die US-Army eingezogen. Nach mühseligen Anfängen als Entertainer und Barpianist nimmt seine musikalische Karriere immer mehr Gestalt an. Sie wird über fünf Jahrzehnte dauern. 1955 kehrt Kreisler nach Europa zurück.
