Publisher's Summary

Point of Retreat is a follow-up to the best-selling novel Slammed.

Hardships and heartache brought them together...now it could tear them apart. Layken and Will have proved their love can get them through anything; until someone from Will's past emerges, leaving Layken questioning the very foundation on which their relationship was built.

Will is forced to face the ultimate challenge: how to prove his love for a girl who refuses to stop "carving pumpkins".

"Sometimes two people have to fall apart, to realize just how much they need to fall back together."

✫✫ 4 Stars ✫✫

I'm a little torn on this book, I loved most of it but didn't love a little of it. After a re-listen of Slammed I had too continue onto book 2 immediately (it's been almost 6 years since my first read). I loved seeing how much these characters all grew in this book. Life handed them all a ton of suck but they still found all kinds of sweet! I could have done without the long drawn out "fight" but the rest of this book was so perfect, it totally made up for it. I loved the stars and butterfly you! I also loved the kids, all of them were awesome and honest. I hope someday to get a book for all 3 of them as adults, I want to see them get there HEA after the life they've all had. The end of this book made my heart happy!

The narration was ok, at first I wasn't sure about him but he grew on me and hey he pronounced Ypsilanti correctly unlike the narrator for Slammed LOL.

I enjoyed this book, not the narrator.

What did you love best about Point of Retreat?

The maturity the characters tried to maintain and how Will had to show Laken why he was really in love with her.

Who was your favorite character and why?

That's tough. I like the neighbor girl, but Will won me over.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kamran R. Khan?

Either the girl who did the first book or a different male. He just seemed to rush through the reading and there was no real depth added by him. In the first book, the slams were almost over emphasized. In here he seemed to speed read and force the story. I didn't care for this narration at all.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes it butterflying did. A couple of times.

Any additional comments?

The story was great. It was predictable, but still a good story. It held a few surprises. The narration just really put a damper on my listening to it again.

Good story ruined by poor audio performance

What did you like best about Point of Retreat, Volume 2? What did you like least?

Change of the point of view, book 1 (Slammed) written from Lake's POV and this one is from Will's POV. Also enjoyed greater depth of supporting characters. Audio was poor, voice and quality.

What didn’t you like about Kamran R. Khan’s performance?

His voice, when relaxed is smooth - but 80% of the time he speaks too fast and without enough emphasis. His female voice is too pitchy and ikky to listen to. The general audio is poor with some background noise heard throughout the book.

Did Point of Retreat, Volume 2 inspire you to do anything?

Inspired to ensure my children are financially and mentally prepared for disaster and death - It was a pretty good life insurance pitch actually.

Pronunciation

Any additional comments?

It drives me crazy that the narrator can't properly pronounce Caul-der (Caulder). He keeps saying Cauder.

I Butterflying Love It!

I butterflying love Point of Retreat! If I could, I would bottle up the goodness of this book and pour it on my own life. I can’t even tell you how MUCH I love Will and Lake. Their love is the kind my dreams are made of.

My heart nearly broke in two for Lake in Slammed, and now the same can be said of Will in Point of Retreat. These two are no strangers when it comes to tragedy, yet they both remain strong through whatever life throws at them. They were both forced to grow up way too fast and take responsibility for their younger brothers. Their little family may not be traditional, but they’re happy, and they love each other’s guts. And that is definitely a sweet.

The way Will thinks about Lake, the way he talks to her, and really, just the perfect way he loves her, had me melting AND crying. I was so happy to get to read from his point of view this time.

I love this book. “Say it again.” I. Love. This. Book.

From here on out, I will read anything Colleen Hoover writes and you should too. Her writing style is fantastic and her characters will become a part of you. For me, Will, Lake, Caulder, Kel, Eddie, Gavin, Keirsten, and Sherry really exist somewhere and I hope they’re all butterflying happy.

Narrator isn’t it

As a huge Colleen Hoover fan, this wasn’t my fav but a great book still!! The narrator however spoke too fast, had to slow it down, and he didn’t give any emotion.

Terrible narration!

It’s almost as if he didn’t even try. He hardly made an effort to depict one character from another and when he did, it was all off. At the moments where yelling Lake was necessary he yelled “Leak” …I getting irritated all over again just writing this review.

Audio

I couldn’t get past the first ten minutes which made me sad because I really wanted to hear how the story ended but the narrators voice sounded like a monotone computer

Not going to be able to finish due to narration

So sad. I wanted to listen but his words seem to slur and he goes too fast. Frustrating.

Loved

What ifs, whys, hows? Love this story. Love Layken and Will in this book more than the first book, love all the characters, except of course Vaughn. Again, heart breakingly wonderful, I laughed, I cried. Colleen just has the right mix of happy and sad.
