Quella di Loi è una poesia che si caratterizza per il fatto di essere composta in dialetto milanese; un dialetto che è un esuberante pastiche di gergo e di lingua colta, di parole inventate e di parole mutuate da altri dialetti ed altre lingue, adottato dal poeta di origini genovesi e da lui adattato a lingua poetica personale. La raccolta contiene poesie che vanno dalla prima silloge, 'I cart' (1973) a 'Isman' (2002), attraversando le principali opere dell'autore. Le ventuno poesie sono lette in italiano da Alberto Rossatti, e in dialetto da Franco Loi stesso, che le accompagna con racconti e riflessioni sulla sua vita, di uomo e di poeta.
