  • Lessons, not life sentences: Jeff Fenech Pt. 1
    Mar 7 2026

For Jeff Fenech, the Newtown Police Boys Club wasn't a place to find a career - it was a place to find a fight. By age 13, Jeff was a "troublesome teenager" already hardened by street gangs and stints in youth detention centres. Everything changed when he met legendary trainer Johnny Lewis, a man who would become his father figure and steer him toward the discipline of the ring.

The rise of the "Marrickville Mauler" was nothing short of a boxing miracle. From the 1984 Olympics to winning a world title in only his seventh professional fight, this is the story of how a kid from the streets became an Aussie icon.

I stumbled across I Catch Killers in my Podcast and could not stop listening. Gary has a natural way of interviewing, is easy to listen to and has amazing guests on his show. I have loved every single episode and have a new found respect for ex criminals who have turned their lives around and have truly redeemed themselves.

An enormous loss to the NSW Police Department, a fantastic win for the land of journalism. Gary has shown what an unbelievable character he has and he is brutally honest without being bitter. Kudos to you Gary Jubelin, I cannot wait for my book to arrive :)
