Publisher's Summary

Connie Green's life should be perfect. She has a great career, a great husband, and a great bunch of girlfriends. But she has just met the overwhelmingly sexy John at a business conference. Her head and heart said, "No way!" but her traitorous body shrieked, "YES, YES!"

Now she's embroiled in a tawdry affair which is destroying her peace of mind and threatening her grand plan of Happily Ever After. Maybe John is her destiny. After all she is losing weight. It can't be such bad things if she’s losing weight, can it?

Meh

I found it very hard to connect to the characters in this book. The women were mostly selfish and awful, their husbands not much better. the women who were the decent voices of reason were simpering housewife types who had nothing going for them. Not particularly great.

Book great, appalling attempt at a Scouse accent ruined the audiobook

Liverpool accent was so poorly delivered I could only listen to 15 minutes of this book. Oh my word completely awful.

Easy to listen to if you can get past the quality

What made the experience of listening to Playing Away the most enjoyable?

Definitely the narrator.

What does Gerri Halligan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I've read this book before and loved it. Gerri Halligan really brought Connie to life for me and I found her easy to listen to.

Any additional comments?

Unfortunately the quality of the audiobook was one of the worst I've heard. It was just about tolerable to listen to, but did detract a little from my enjoyment.
