Publisher's Summary

Play the man. Make the man.

Somewhere along the way, our culture lost its definition of manhood, leaving generations of men and men-to-be confused about their roles, responsibilities, and relationships and the reason God made them men. It's into this "no-man's-land" that New York Times best-selling author Mark Batterson declares his mantra for manhood: Play the man.

In this inspiring call to something greater, he helps men understand what it means to be a man of God by unveiling seven virtues of manhood. Mark shares inspiring stories of manhood, including the true story of the hero and martyr Polycarp, who first heard the voice from heaven say, "Play the man". Mark couples those stories with practical ideas about how to disciple the next generation of men who will put God first, family second, and career third.

This is more than an audiobook; it's a movement of men who will settle for nothing less than fulfilling their highest calling to be the men and the fathers God has destined them to be.

cannot stand the narrator

The narrator comes across as patronizing and sounds like his nose is completely stopped up.

A bunch of Humble boasting and try harder

I rarely write reviews but Mark has dropped the ball in this book. Even going so far as to say that it was Christ will power that kept Him on the Cross. Our will power is not on will call which means Christ didn't have the will power on His own. But you may say Jesus was God sure He had will power to stay on the Cross …..Your forgetting He emptied Himself .Therefore How did Jesus endure the cross?? Kenosis not will power. The book is filled with you can do more you can make if you try harder you can blah blah blah Honestly Ive heard so much of this from Olsteen ,Jakes ,Furtick Im tired of it . We need the Holy Spirit not will power. aSad very sad to see Mark take a turn for the worst following the main stream

A Must Read

Mark Batterson’s book is a wonderful addition to the Christian men’s genre. Like Wild at Heart, it unashamedly calls Christian men to the work of being a man, and pouring into the next generation to make men, and reestablish Biblical manhood. A refreshing, energetic listen.

Why stay the man the world intended. Become the man God intended. Partner beside Him to teach and lead the next generation, then the next if we are here that long.

Invaluable Guidance for Fathers and men

Easy to listen and understand, yet refreshing and thought provoking ideas and concepts about the seven virtues of manhood; calling forth the man in your son; the real role of the real church...

I especially enjoyed where the author shared some details about the discipleship covenant and rite of passage he designed for his sons.

I generally find american accents slightly leas pleasant to listen to, but nevertheless, I could hear passion and enthusiasm and sometimes urgency in the voice of the narrator (also author). And the Audible App alows you to vary the playback speed to your liking.

Brothers, friends, it was a blessing to me!

No one thought me how to be a man

We can't use that excuse anymore. In this book we now have a great opportunity & roadmap on how to partner with God to bring up exceptional sons & daughters. We need more books like this & most of all, the courage & perseverance to execute this in Jesus name. Amen
