Den lange, dejlige sommerferie var en skønne dag forbi, og Tommy og Annika begyndte i skolen igen. Pippi fandt stadigvæk, at hun var klog nok uden skolegang. Hun sagde meget bestemt, at hun ikke havde i sinde at sætte sine ben i skolen, før den dag kom, da hun absolut ikke kunne klare sig uden at vide, om søsyg skulle staves med stort eller lille s. Men eftersom jeg aldrig er søsyg, behøver jeg i første omgang ikke bekymre mig om stavningen, sagde hun. Og hvis jeg virkelig engang skulle gå hen og blive søsyg, så har jeg andet at gøre end at stave til det.
