Story
Cally and Rowe have scoured the demonic wights from Narashtovik. But during the war, Cally learned he can no longer be part of the pacifist Order that raised him to be a sorcerer. The pair has traveled south, seeking the true copy of The Cycle of Arawn - the artifact Cally believes can restore proper rule to Narashtovik. There's a few problems with this plan, though. For one, nobody's seen the true copy in decades. And another, in these lands, possessing a copy of the Cycle is rewarded with a quick trip to the hangman.

Story
Now a student at Wurthaven, Will is confronted with the truth of the present. The powerful magic embodied by wizards like his grandfather is but a distant memory. Though the practice of the current day is timid and uninspired, Will needs the knowledge that’s preserved and managed by the college. At every turn he finds that sorcery is supreme, while wizards are trained merely to assist and support those who hold the real power - a power based on an evil so deep that few who are living know the truth of its foundation.

Good preview, unsatisfying story
This one felt a little too short and lacking conclusion. Unless you read the main books a lot of the terms would be left unexplained, so I'd think you'd be even more confused.
If you've read the series, this is a nice free addition.
If you haven't, check out some of the author's other free titles first. Those a more self-explanatory than this one, so not only do you get a sense of his writing style, but also a complete story.

Easy read and interesting
I was given this book free. Here's my honest review.
I would classify this book as Young Adult, which I don't normally listen to.
It was easy to listen to, good narration, interesting short story. I felt it was a little too short, would have loved more context. I wanted to know more. It is a good teaser to get you to listen to the series.
At the end, there's a preview of next book in the series and that was much more descriptive. My guess is the full length books will have more context.

Very nice story line
All I can say is that I can't wait for the book to release. This short story kept my interest and I am looking forward to finding more books by Michael Sullivan. He has a way of making a book come alive. The narrator is also great at telling the story. If you're looking for some adventures in a book, this is just snip it of where you will go.

A Good Intro
This book is a short story containing also the start to the main series. This not only helped display the author's writing style but also helped whisk you away into a fantasy realm. Giving a range of moods from happy and everyday to down right creep in a short period with no whiplash. I am excited to continue reading the rest of this series.

Wonderful, and Creepy, Short Story
This is a wonderful short story to introduce new listeners/readers to Sullivan's writing. As a fan of his Riyria books, I went in with high expectations and they were met. Makes me look forward even more to getting to reading/listening to the rest of the Legends of the First Empire.
P.S. The bonus excerpt from the first book in that series is a wonderful, horrible tease. Need to make more time to read/listen now...

A sweet short story!
Pile of Bones is a sweet short story that spotlights Suri, a young mystic, and Minna her wolf sister. Suri listens to Minna, the trees, the brook, the whole world of Elan, in fact. When Minna, or Elan, speaks to Suri, it's always sage advice, and sometimes it will even save her life! This story can be read as a stand-alone, or as a precursor for the first book in the series, Age of Myth.
Tim Gerard Reynolds is scary-good as the narrator, so snatch it up ASAP, hopefully while Audible is still listing it at a special reduced price for members!

Very different to what I have heard before. But it was a great way to get away from my worries for a while, I loved it, I just got a bit confused at the beginning with all the names. Funny, serious, sad & a few more. The narrator really bought the story alive! Loved it and have already got one of Michael Sullivan's books.
