Publisher's Summary

It starts like any other Monday for Ty Christianson. Fifty laps in his pool, a suave suit, a chat with his mum on the way to his office, dodging countless calls from women, and his faithful yet cynical assistant waiting for him with a coffee. Then a meeting with his business partner and life-long friend Sal upends everything. Sal's hired a new assistant without so much as consulting Ty. That's a cardinal sin in their world, but it's the least of Ty's worries. Sal hasn't just hired a new personal assistant, he's hired an absolute goddess - and she's off-limits to Ty.

Lainey Summer drives Ty crazy with her savage beauty, her effortless sexiness, and her unfathomable veneer. She plays her cards way too close to her chest, and doesn't that just make her more enticing?

Unlucky for Lainey, Ty’s notoriously irresistible.

Unlucky for Ty, Lainey can resist him.Or can she?

As Ty sets on a mission to break Lainey, an intended conquest becomes a fixation.

And in the process, he’s thrown into perfect chaos.

First Jodi Ellen Malpas book I didn’t like

I’m shocked that I wouldn’t like this books so much, but there are numerous reasons. I don’t remember if I’ve ever rated a book so low. 1. It takes nearly 5 hours just to get them together in the actual same scene. And even then their conversations and banter were quite droll until the second half. 2. Tyler and Lainey’s relationship doesn’t make sense. They’re both mistrusting, vindictive, and toxic. Tyler’s behavior when he’s under duress is also not attractive, and quite frankly quite scary. If I ever saw a real man act so physically even when not directed towards me, I would be panicked and concerned. For his well being and mine. He’s a ticking time bomb. 3. It's half-finished. Even when Tyler finds out the truth about Lainey, it’s never explored or examined in a deeper context like in This Man. Everything is just swept under the rug. It’s like a cop-out to just forgive everything in the name of love. These are not lighthearted betrayals; it’s an abuse of trust. Lainey and Tyler are not good people in essence and it makes it hard to be empathetic. 4. It bothers me that Tyler’s best friend and family would push him to Lainey after the revelation. That’s not what support looks like. Yes, friends push, but it’s usually when you’re being an asshole. Yes, Lainey and Tyler had their cute moments, but she hurt him to the extremes. How can you as a best friend or mother excuse that? No matter if your heart lingered on someone, if he/she/they hurt my loved ones, I would fight someone. Tyler did nothing wrong; he’s the victim and they pushing him towards her minimizes the hurt he experienced at the moment. Where was Gina at that moment? She would’ve torn Lainey a new one. 5. Even his friend needs some form of couple’s therapy because their relationship isn’t healthy either. What Moira did to Sal is not okay. And how they treat each other in general. I love JEM’s writing style but this story was just a no for me. As for the narrator, I liked Blake Stanton’s voice but it can sound like a British butler at times, like Alfred. He portrayed Lainey as a soft-spoken or dainty woman but that’s not the kind of woman Lainey is so it was jarring.

A good book, but felt unfinished

First let me say that I love JEM and hate that I have any negative feedback, so I say this with love. I found parts of the book to be a bit redundant and the ending fell flat and abrupt. The story felt unfinished to me.

Kept me wondering!

Ty and Lainey’s story is one for the books. See what I did there 😏 Ty is take aback by this new girl who flaunts into his life without warning. She takes his heart by storm and runs with it. Promising to never hurt him. But she has this secret he can’t figure out and you sure won’t either. Love love love this story of triumph and overcoming fears! Need more of their story Jodi! 🥰

Bad narration

This book Could have been so good but the narration totally spoilt it for me , I’ve seen Jodi comment distinguished well that’s certainly not my interpretation. I don’t think she reads reviews but there are some stellar narrators out there but her publishes tend to let her down if only she would speak to some of her co authors They put such effort into there choices if you insist on English Shane East , Richard Chamberlain Will Wyatt, all English , Sebastian York (king of narration) Joe Arden although Americans do a splendid English accent , Edita Brychta was fantastic for her first two trilogies Please please take this on board and stop rubbishing her books

Great immersive story

I really enjoyed the story, not unconventional yet somewhat different in style within its genre. The voice acting was ok, apart from a man reading the female dialogue — slightly cringe! The Perfect escape if you need a moment away from reality.

Frustrating

Why oh why didn’t you use an English narrator...the story was great but I kept losing it over the awful fake British accent

Another good book..

Loved the story when I got into it. Its a slow start. Didn't like the nirator his voice was to old, I thought in the beginning he was in his mid 40's to 50ish. Not 37... Disappointed no epilog... Just "the end". Did they ever get married, have or adopt children.. Live happy ever after?????
