About this listen

It isn't often you receive a letter from the dead.

When Vianne Rocher receives a letter from beyond the grave, she has no choice but to follow the wind that blows her back to Lansquenet, the village in south-west France where, eight years ago, she opened up a chocolate shop.

But Vianne is completely unprepared for what she finds there. Women veiled in black, the scent of spices and peppermint tea, and there, on the bank of the river Tannes, facing the square little tower of the church of Saint-Jerôme like a piece on a chessboard - slender, bone-white and crowned with a silver crescent moon - a minaret.

Nor is it only the incomers from North Africa that have brought big changes to the community. Father Reynaud, Vianne's erstwhile adversary, is now disgraced and under threat. Could it be that Vianne is the only one who can save him?

Great story, but the voice reading it was terrible. If the story wasn’t good I would have left the story half listened to.
It’s terrible how how it can change your enjoyment of a story.
It’s a good lovers story.

I’m a huge fan of Joanne Harris and her work, especially this series.

This is the second sequel to ‘Chocolat’, one of my all-time favourite books and movies. It’s every bit as good as the original.

Filled with humour, whimsy, magical realism, religious & cultural tolerance, and being Joanne Harris, a buttload of food, it left me feeling happy and fulfilled.

Four hand-rolled chocolate truffles out of five.

Beautiful sequel to Chocolat

Loved it.
Loved being back in the village and picking up with old friends and seeing personalities evolve.
Could smell the peaches and loved the language.
Loved the layers. Sad it is finished.

Best read/listen for ages

Not sure this had the right narrator for the female voice too deep and husky
