Publisher's Summary

Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake.

So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave?

Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

The one who's being pursued by...something.

So when the mysterious traveler finally reappears, Eli's determined that this time, he's going to get some answers. But his hunt soon yields far more than he bargained for, plunging him headlong into a dizzying world full of competing factions and figures straight out of legend.

To make sense of the mystery at its heart, he must embark on a breakneck chase across the country and through two centuries of history - with nothing less than America's past, present, and future at stake.

Not 'FOLD' or '14' but still worth waiting for.

The imagination in the story was great. The light touch use of tech was good. Characters you cared about. The satire of the 'faceless men' was intriguing. As I said in the title, I enjoyed 14 and Fold more but still enjoyed Paradox. I have to admit that I was half expecting a seven limbed bug to appear at any moment😀. Looking forward to the next Clines ...

Really trips over in the middle

I'm really disappointed in this book. I love Peter's books and had read the mixed reviews on this book. Some people loved it while quite a few seemed to hate it.

The first few hours I couldn't see why people were hating this book, it was quite interesting and I was flying through the book. Admittedly I was unimpressed by the way time travel is used in the book, it really is kind of a lame take on the idea. Then I found it, I hit the part of the book where that story just got...well stupid.

I've tried several time to continue this book, weeks have gone by and when I return I try to be open to the idea but it is just so out of place in the story to me it makes it too hard to get lost in the story. Peter's ideas are out there and I'm all for his interdimensional escapades and crazy stories, this one just isn't for me.

So sadly I will be returning this book. Better luck next time Peter.

2.5/5

not sure why I have gave this one a go, I really really didn't like 14 but I liked the idea of this, I'm a sucker for time travel... but I just didn't click with this, I feel bad for saying this and I'm not going to say the things I didn't like. not for me and no more Peter Clines for me

Didn't think I'd like it, but I was wrong!

A love a good time travelling novel. Initially I thought the characters might be a bit dated and dry, but I grew to love them as well as the direction of the story. Very clever and enjoyable.

amazing!

I really didn't want this book to end. I loved the characters and plot, and of course Ray Porter's narration, as always

Unconvincing & whitewashed.

Didn’t finish. I lasted about three and a half hours but was getting increasingly annoyed at the time travelling character’s obtuseness, which made sense once she finally did explain the basic backstory and it is, simply, absurd. I would have persisted if there had been a single hint of acknowledgement that there was anyone living in America before the white guys turned up, but apparently there is no history in the US before then. Maybe there is some reference later, but I didn’t last that long.

PS Ray Porters’s narration is outstanding, as usual.

Tough subject matter

really couldn't have been done better. its a really challenging story and only really a brave person could have wrote. I appreciated the afterward, i have to say that I felt similar tension.
but metaphorically I saw it as very meaningful.
thank you.
